Traffic Mirroring

Traffic Mirroring

In traffic mirroring, service traffic that matches configured rules is copied and then sent to observing ports for analysis and monitoring.

There are two types of traffic mirroring: local traffic mirroring and remote traffic mirroring. The type used depends on the location of monitoring devices. In remote traffic mirroring, a traffic policy containing traffic mirroring cannot be applied in the VLAN of the intermediate Layer 2 network through which mirrored packets are forwarded from an observing port to a monitoring device.

Figure 9-4 shows the process of traffic mirroring. The mirrored port copies service flow 2 that matches the rules to the observing port, which then forwards the copied service flow 2 to the monitoring device.

A traffic policy containing a traffic mirroring behavior can be applied globally, in a VLAN, or on a mirrored port. For details about traffic policies, see WMQC Configuration and ACL-based Simplified Traffic Policy Configuration in the S1720, S2700, S5700, and S6720 V200R011C10 Configuration Guide - QoS.
