VLAN Mirroring

In VLAN mirroring, packets on all the active ports in a specified VLAN are copied and then sent to observing ports. You can monitor packets in a single VLAN or multiple VLANs.

Currently, when VLAN mirroring is used on the Huawei S series fixed switches, only the packets that are received by the active ports in a VLAN can be copied to an observing port, as shown in Figure 9-5.

There are two types of VLAN mirroring: local VLAN mirroring and remote VLAN mirroring. The type used depends on the location of monitoring devices. In remote VLAN mirroring, hosts cannot reside on the VLAN of the intermediate Layer 2 network through which mirrored packets are forwarded from an observing port to a monitoring device.
