Configuring Remote MAC Address Mirroring

Context

In remote MAC address mirroring, an observing port is connected to a monitoring device through an intermediate network and forwards the packets with a specified MAC address to the monitoring device through the intermediate network.

Procedure

  1. Run the system-view command to enter the system view.
  2. Configure remote observing ports.

    • Configure a single remote observing port.

      Run the observe-port [ observe-port-index ] interface interface-type interface-number vlan vlan-id command to configure a single remote observing port.

      vlan vlan-id indicates that a remote observing port sends mirrored packets to the monitoring device through the specified VLAN. Therefore, the remote observing port does not need to be added to the VLAN.

    • Configure multiple remote observing ports in a batch. (This configuration mode is supported only by the S5720EI, S5720HI, S6720S-EI, and S6720EI.)

      1. Run the observe-port [ observe-port-index ] interface-range { interface-type interface-number [ to interface-type interface-number ] } &<1-n> vlan vlan-id command to configure multiple remote observing ports in a batch.

        n in &<1-n> is 4 on the S5720EI, S6720S-EI, and S6720EI and 8 on the S5720HI, indicating that this command can be configured four times on the S5720EI, S6720S-EI, and S6720EI, and eight times on the S5720HI.

        vlan vlan-id indicates that a remote observing port sends mirrored packets to the monitoring device through the specified VLAN. Therefore, the remote observing port does not need to be added to the VLAN.

      2. (Optional) Run the observe-port observe-port-index interface-range { add | delete } interface-type interface-number command to add or delete remote observing ports to or from multiple remote observing ports configured in a batch.

    An observing port is dedicated to forwarding mirrored traffic. Do not configure other services on an observing port; otherwise, mirrored traffic and other service traffic interfere with each other.

  3. Copy the packets with a specified MAC address to an observing port.

    • Run the vlan vlan-id command to enter the VLAN view.

    • Run the mac-mirroring mac-address to observe-port observe-port-index inbound command to copy the packets with a specified MAC address and send them to a specified observing port.

      observe-port-index specifies the observing port index and must be the same as the index of the configured observing port.

Verifying the Configuration

  • Run the display observe-port command to check the observing port configuration.
  • Run the display port-mirroring command to check the mirroring configuration.

Configuration Tips

Restoring the default configuration of an Ethernet port or Eth-Trunk configured as an observing port

  1. Unbind the MAC address in a specified VLAN from the observing port.

    [HUAWEI] vlan xxx
    [HUAWEI-vlanxxx] undo mac-mirroring xxx inbound
    [HUAWEI-vlanxxx] quit
  2. Delete the observing port configuration in the system view.

    [HUAWEI] undo observe-port x
    
  3. After steps 1 and 2 are complete, the default configuration of the Ethernet port or Eth-Trunk is restored. You can then configure other services on the Ethernet port or Eth-Trunk.
