Overview of the BootLoad Menu

Overview of the BootLoad Menu

The uBoot provides functions including the system software loading and menu-based control. During the startup of the device, the uBoot starts first to load the system software. The menu-based control function is implemented using the BootLoad menu, facilitating management on the system software loading. This document mainly describes functions of the BootLoad menu.

During the switch startup, press Ctrl+B to access the BootLoad menu. The BootLoad menu is the main BootLoad menu that provides various functions including the transfer, startup file setting, file management, changing the BootLoad password, and deleting the password for logging in to the switch using the console port.

Usage Scenario

The uBoot is a program integrated on the switch main card and allows you to manage the switch using the BootLoad menu after the switch is powered on. If the switch can properly start, accessing the BootLoad menu is unnecessary. You can use the BootLoad menu to handle the following situations:
  • Restore or upgrade the system when the system stops responding and the CLI cannot be displayed.
  • Delete the password for logging in to the switch using the console port when you forget the password.

  • To view the switch startup process, log in to the switch using the console port. Press shortcut keys as prompted to access the BootLoad menu. For the method of login using the console port, see Configuring Login Through a Console Port.

  • Do not power off the switch when you manage the switch using the BootLoad menu; otherwise, the settings in the BootLoad menu will be lost.
