Application of a Single Ring

To provide link backup and improve network reliability, you can construct a ring on the network.

In Figure 18-20, Transit 1, Transit 2, Transit 3, and Master constitute a single RRPP ring. Data traffic is transmitted along the path Transit 1 -> Transit 2 -> Master.

If RRPP detects a fault on the link between Transit 1 and Transit 2, Master unblocks its secondary interface and immediately instructs other nodes on the ring to re-learn MAC address entries and ARP entries. Traffic on the RRPP ring is then switched to the path Transit 1 -> Transit 3 -> Master.
