Configuring an SPF Timer


When the OSPFv3 LSDB changes, SPF calculation must be performed again. A shorter SPF calculation interval can increase network convergence speed, but also occupies more resources. In addition, frequent network changes can cause excessive bandwidth use. A longer SPF calculation interval occupies fewer resources, which prevents the bandwidth use due to frequent network changes. However, this also decreases network convergence speed. Set the interval based on actual network conditions.

Perform the following operations on the switch that runs OSPFv3.


  • Configure an SPF normal timer.
    1. Run system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. Run ospfv3 [ process-id ]

      The OSPFv3 view is displayed.

    3. Run spf timers delay-interval hold-interval

      Or spf-schedule-interval delay-interval hold-interval

      An SPF normal timer is configured.

  • Configure an SPF intelligent timer.
    1. Run system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. Run ospfv3 [ process-id ]

      The OSPFv3 view is displayed.

    3. Run spf-schedule-interval intelligent-timer max-interval start-interval hold-interval-1

      An SPF intelligent timer is configured.

      The configurations of the spf timers delay-interval hold-interval, spf-schedule-interval delay-interval hold-interval, and spf-schedule-interval intelligent-timer max-interval start-interval hold-interval-1 commands will override each other, and only the configuration of the last executed command takes effect.
