Setting an Interval at Which Hello Packets Are Sent

Setting an Interval at Which Hello Packets Are Sent

Context

OSPF interfaces periodically send Hello packets to establish and maintain neighbor relationships. The sending intervals must be the same on any two neighbors. Otherwise, OSPF neighbor relationships cannot be established.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run interface interface-type interface-number

The OSPF interface view is displayed.

  3. (Optional) On an Ethernet interface, run undo portswitch

The interface is switched to Layer 3 mode.

By default, an Ethernet interface works in Layer 2 mode.

  4. Run ospf timer hello interval [ conservative ]

An interval at which the OSPF interface sends Hello packets is set.

By default, the interval is 10s on a P2P or broadcast interface and 30s on a P2MP or NBMA interface. The dead time after which the OSPF neighbor relationship expires is four times the interval for sending Hello packets on the same interface.
