This document is applicable to OceanStor 5110 V5, 5300 V5, 5500 V5, 5600 V5, 5800 V5, 6800 V5, 18500 V5, and 18800 V5. This document describes the working principle and application scenarios of the SmartTier (for block) feature. It also explains how to configure and manage the feature.

Starting the SmartTier

Starting the SmartTier

This operation enables you to start the SmartTier function to let the storage system analyze hotspot data and migrate data based on the preset policy.


  • A license file that contains the SmartTier license information has been imported into the storage system.
  • The storage system has a storage pool that contains at least two storage layers.


  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Provisioning > Resource Performance Tuning > SmartTier.
  3. Set parameters for the SmartTier.

    1. In the left function pane, select the storage pool whose SmartTier function you want to start.
    2. Right-click and choose Start from the shortcut menu.

      The Start Data Migration dialog box is displayed.

    3. Set the duration for the data migration.

  4. Start the SmartTier.

    1. Click OK.

      The Execution Result dialog box is displayed, indicating that the operation succeeded.

    2. Click Close.
