SmartTier applies to various services. This section uses Oracle database service as an example.

Table 1-2 compares the disk procurement costs before and after using SmartTier.

After using SmartTier, enterprise A reduced its disk procurement costs by 25%. As shown in Figure 1-5, if the percentage of cold data increases, further savings on disk procurement costs can be made.

Since cold data is stored on NL-SAS disks, high-performance SSDs are freed up for hot data, providing hot data with a fast response and high IOPS. As a result, the overall storage system performance is improved.
