Creating a SmartPartition
This operation enables you to create a SmartPartition task.
Prerequisites
A license file that contains the SmartPartition license information has been imported into the storage system.
Context
A SmartPartition is scheduled in the background and instantly available after it is created. A LUN or file system can be added to a cache partition when the partition is being created or after it is created.
Procedure
- Log in to DeviceManager.
- Choose
Provisioning >
Resource Performance Tuning >
SmartPartition.
- Set the basic properties of a SmartPartition task.
- Click Create.
The Create SmartPartition Wizard dialog box is displayed.
- In the Name and Description text boxes, name and describe the SmartPartition.

- The name must be unique.
- The name can contain only letters, digits, periods (.), underscores (_), and hyphens (-).
- The value contains 1 to 31 characters.

- Click Create.
- Set a control goal for the SmartPartition.
- On the Set Name page, click Next.
The Set SmartPartition Size page is displayed.
- Set Engine, Read Partition Size, and Write Partition Size for the SmartPartition.

Read Partition Size
Read partition size of a newly created SmartPartition.
[Value range]
- The value cannot exceed the available read partition. Optional units are MB and GB.
- The value of a read partition must be at least 256 MB and an integral multiple of 128 MB. When the entered value is not an integral multiple, the system automatically changes the value to one that meets requirements.

Write Partition Size
Write partition size of a newly created SmartPartition.
[Value range]
- The value cannot exceed the available write partition. Optional units are MB and GB.
- The value of a write partition must be at least 256 MB and an integral multiple of 128 MB. When the entered value is not an integral multiple, the system automatically changes the value to one that meets requirements.

- On the Set Name page, click Next.
- Click Next. On the Select LUNs page, select the LUN that the SmartPartition applies to.
- If the clone, remote replication, snapshot or LUN copy feature has been configured for a LUN, the LUN cannot be added to SmartPartition. If you have to add it, delete the configured feature first. Before the deletion, confirm whether the corresponding feature is required.
- LUNs and file systems cannot be added into the same SmartPartition.
- Click Next. On the Select File Systems page, select the file system that the SmartPartition applies to.
- Confirm the creation of the SmartPartition.
- On the Select File Systems page, click Next.
The Summary dialog box is displayed.
- Confirm information summary of the SmartPartition.
- If the information is correct, click Finish.
The security alert dialog box is displayed. Carefully read the content in the dialog box. Then select I have read and understand the consequences associated with performing this operation for confirmation and click OK. The Execution Result message box is displayed, indicating that the SmartPartition is successfully created. Click Close.
- If the information is incorrect, click Previous to reset it.
- If the information is correct, click Finish.
- On the Select File Systems page, click Next.
