Performing a Primary/Secondary Switchover for a Remote Replication Pair

By performing this operation, you can switch the roles of the primary and secondary resources of a remote replication pair. The data synchronization direction changes as the primary/secondary relationship changes.

Prerequisites

  • The remote replication pair for which you want to initiate a primary/secondary switchover is not added to a consistency group.
  • A primary/secondary switchover can be performed when a synchronous remote replication pair is in the following states:
    • Pair Running Status is Normal, Secondary Resource Data Status is Synchronized, and Status of Secondary Resource Protection is Read-only.
    • Pair Running Status is Split, Secondary Resource Data Status is Consistent, and Status of Secondary Resource Protection is Read/Write.
  • A primary/secondary switchover can be performed when an asynchronous remote replication pair is in the following states:
    • Pair Running Status is Split, Secondary Resource Data Status is Consistent, and Status of Secondary Resource Protection is Read/Write.

Procedure

  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Data Protection > Remote Replication > Remote Replication Pair.
  3. Right-click the remote replication pair you want to perform the switchover and choose Primary/Secondary Switchover.

    The security alert dialog box is displayed.

  4. Confirm the primary/secondary switchover.

    1. Confirm the information in the dialog box. Select I have read and understand the consequences associated with performing this operation. Click OK.

      The Success dialog box is displayed, indicating that the operation succeeded.

    2. Click OK.
