Configuration (Using the LUN Copy Feature of the Production and DR Centers)

Configuration (Using the LUN Copy Feature of the Production and DR Centers)

You can create LUN copies on the storage systems in the production center and DR center to implement initial synchronization for remote replication.

Prerequisites

  • A network has been set up between the production center and the DR center, the storage systems have been configured, and the primary and secondary LUNs have been created.
  • A LUN has been created on the external storage system. This LUN has the same capacity as the primary and secondary LUNs.
  • The external storage system is in the production center and connected to the storage system in the production center.
  • The external storage system is a Huawei product.
  • The storage system in the production center supports the snapshot feature and the storage systems in the production center and the DR center support the LUN copy feature.

Procedure

  1. Configure a remote replication relationship between the production center and the DR center.

    1. Log in to the storage system in the production center. Select a LUN on the storage system in the production center and use it as the primary LUN. Select a LUN on the storage system in the DR center and use it as the secondary LUN. Use the two LUNs to create a remote replication pair and ensure that Pair Health Status is Normal.
      NOTE:

When creating a remote replication pair, select The primary and secondary LUNs have consistent data and data synchronization is not required.

    2. Split the remote replication pair.

Ensure that the remote replication pair is split successfully and its Pair Running Status is Split.

  2. Replicate data from the production center to the external storage system.

    1. Create and activate a snapshot for the primary LUN of the production center.

The snapshot is created and activated.

    2. Log in to the external storage system. Select the snapshot of the primary LUN and use it as the source LUN. Use a LUN on the external storage system as the target LUN. Use the source and target LUNs to create a full LUN copy.

The full LUN copy is created and its Health Status is Normal.

    3. Start full LUN copy.

The full LUN copy is started and its Running Status is Copying. After full LUN copy is complete, its Running Status becomes Completed.

    4. Delete the full LUN copy.

The full LUN copy is deleted.

    5. Log in to the storage system in the production center and deactivate and delete the snapshot.

The snapshot is deactivated and deleted.

  3. Move the external storage system to the DR center.
  4. Copy data from the external storage system to the storage system of the DR center.

    1. Log in to the external storage system and create a full LUN copy. The source LUN of the LUN copy is the LUN of the external storage system and the target LUN is the secondary LUN of the remote replication pair. Then start LUN copy.

The full LUN copy is created and started. After full LUN copy is complete, its Running Status becomes Completed.

      NOTE:
      • Run the create lun_copy remote name=test local_role=source lun_id=## remote_device_id=## remote_lun_id=## is_target_lun_check=no command in developer mode.
      • Ensure that the secondary LUN in the remote replication pair is in the Read-only state during LUN copy configuration and LUN copy.
    2. Delete the full LUN copy.

  5. Start synchronization from the production center to the DR center.
