Viewing Remote Replication Performance Indicators

Viewing Remote Replication Performance Indicators

After an asynchronous remote replication pair is created (the pair status is normal), you can view real-time performance indicators such as bandwidth, interval since last synchronization, synchronization duration, and time difference (RPO).

Context

  • Real-time performance data can be viewed only when performance monitoring is enabled. If performance monitoring is not enabled, click Set Parameters to enable it.
  • Only performance indicators of asynchronous remote replication are collected, and they can be queried in the primary storage system only.
  • The performance indicators include Block Bandwidth (MB/s), Logical Bandwidth (MB/s), Interval since last synchronization (s), Time Difference (s), and Synchronization Duration (s). Table 3-24 explains the indicators.
Table 3-24 Performance indicators of a remote replication pair

    Performance Indicator

    Description

    Block Bandwidth (MB/s)

Volume of data transmitted per second after the data is compressed

    Logical Bandwidth (MB/s)

Volume of data transmitted per second before the data is compressed

    Interval since last synchronization (s)

Time interval since the last synchronization is complete

    Time Difference (s)

Time difference between data on the primary and secondary storage devices (RPO)

    Synchronization Duration (s)

Longest synchronization duration during the sampling interval

Procedure

  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Monitor > Performance Monitoring.
  3. View real-time performance data of a remote replication pair.

    NOTE:

You can click Set Parameters in the upper function pane of the performance monitoring interface to go to the Set Performance Monitoring Parameters page and enable performance monitoring.

    • View real-time performance data in single-figure display mode.
      NOTE:

If you want to view the graphs of all performance indicators in one figure, use the single-figure display mode.

      1. When selecting the view mode, click .
      2. In the Monitored Object dialog box, select remote replication for Object Type and select the remote replication pair that you want to monitor. In this case, select LUN P→LUN S. You can select multiple remote replication pairs to view their performance indicators.
      3. In the Statistical Indicators dialog box, select the performance indicators that you want to view. In this case, select Logical Bandwidth (MB/s), Interval since last synchronization (s), Time Difference (s), and Synchronization Duration (s).
      4. View real-time performance data in the right function pane.

As shown in Figure 3-7, graphs of the performance indicators are displayed.

        NOTE:
        • You can click in the upper right corner to view details of the performance data.
        • When you move the cursor over a performance data sampling point in the graph, the corresponding sampling value and point in time are displayed.

    • View real-time performance monitoring data in multi-figure display mode.
    NOTE:

If you want one figure to display one performance indicator, use the multi-figure display mode.

As shown in Figure 3-8, graphs of the performance indicators are displayed.

    NOTE:
    • You can click in the upper right corner to view details of the performance data.
    • When you move the cursor over a performance data sampling point in the graph, the corresponding sampling value and point in time are displayed.
