Creating a HyperMirror
This operation allows you to convert a local LUN or external LUN to a mirror LUN and at the same time generate a mirror copy for the mirror LUN.
Prerequisites
- The HyperMirror license is valid.
- The storage system has free LUNs which are not thin LUNs.
Context
- Mirror LUNs fully inherit the storage space, basic properties, and services of common LUNs, ensuring normal service operation on hosts.
- During the creation of a mirror LUN, mirror copy A is automatically generated in the local storage system. Mirror copy A inherits the storage space of the mirror LUN and synchronizes data from the mirror LUN.
- When you are creating a mirror LUN, mirror copy B is required by the mirror LUN. This mirror copy is a LUN automatically generated by the storage system and the data on the mirror LUN is synchronized to the mirror copy.
- Only system administrators are allowed to create a HyperMirror.
Procedure
- Log in to DeviceManager.
- Go to the user interface of HyperMirror in vStore.
Click
vStore, select the desired vStore, and click Details to go to the vStore view. Choose Data Protection > HyperMirror.
- In the left information pane, click Create.
The Create HyperMirror Wizard dialog box is displayed.
- Select the LUN that you want to convert to a mirror LUN and click Next.
- Add a mirror copy for the mirror LUN.
- Select the storage pool where the mirror copy to be added resides.
If the mirror copy is a local LUN, select a storage pool that resides in a different disk domain from the existing mirror copy to ensure the high availability of the mirror copy.
- Determine the type of the mirror copy to be added. The type can be LUN or eDevLUN.
If the device to which the mirror copy is to be added is the local device, select the LUN. If the device is a third-party device, select the eDevLUN.
- Click Next.
- Select the storage pool where the mirror copy to be added resides.
- Optional: If eDevLUN is selected, select a LUN from a remote device.
- In the Remote Device drop-down list, select a remote device.
- In Available LUNs, select a remote LUN.
The system selects a remote LUN that has the same size as the mirror LUN. Before creating a volume mirror, you must create and map a remote LUN with the same size as the mirror LUN on the remote device. The system automatically creates an eDevLUN using the selected remote LUN. The eDevLUN is used as a mirror copy of the mirror LUN.
- Set data synchronization properties.
- In Mirror Copy Name, modify the mirror copy name.
- Select or deselect Initial synchronization based on service requirements.
If initial synchronization is not implemented, data consistency between mirror copies and mirror LUNs cannot be ensured. Initial synchronization is not needed if mirror LUNs are newly created and have not been read or written.
- Click Next.
- Confirm the settings of the HyperMirror to be created.
- Confirm the settings of the mirror LUN to be created and click Finish.
The Execution Result dialog box is displayed indicating that the operation succeeded.
- Click Close.
After creating a mirror for an eDevLUN, the Caution dialog box is displayed, indicating that the write policy of the mirror copy is modified to write back. Record the mirror copy name and click OK. Choose Provisioning > LUN and select the mirror copy. Choose Properties > Advanced to modify the write policy of the mirror copy to write back.
- Confirm the settings of the mirror LUN to be created and click Finish.
