Splitting a LUN Clone Pair

Splitting a LUN Clone Pair

A secondary LUN stores a split-point-in-time copy of the primary LUN only after the clone has been split. If data on the primary LUN is corrupted later, the copy can be used to recover the faulty primary LUN. The copy can also be used for application testing and data analysis.

Prerequisites

Check whether the Running Status and Data Status of the clone pair meet requirements for splitting. Table 2-15 describes the status requirements.

Precautions

After a clone pair is split, write requests sent to the primary LUN are no longer automatically synchronized to the secondary LUN in that pair. Based on your actual requirements, you can manually synchronize data from the primary LUN to the secondary LUN again.

Procedure

  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Data Protection > Clone.
  3. Select the desired clone and choose More > Split on the menu bar.

The Split xxx dialog box is displayed. (xxx indicates the name of the selected clone.)

    NOTE:

You can also right-click the desired clone, and choose Split.

  4. Select the desired secondary LUN and click OK.

The security alert dialog box is displayed.

  5. Confirm that you want to split the selected clone pair.

    1. Read the contents of the security alert dialog box carefully. Then click the check box next to the statement I have read and understand the consequences associated with performing this operation to confirm the information.
    2. Click OK.

The Execution Result dialog box is displayed, indicating that the operation succeeded.

    3. Click Close.

The clone management page is displayed.
