This document is applicable to OceanStor 5110 V5, 5300 V5, 5500 V5, 5600 V5, 5800 V5, 6800 V5, 5300F V5, 5500F V5, 5600F V5, 5800F V5, 6800F V5, 18500 V5, 18800 V5, 18500F V5, and 18800F V5. It describes the basic storage services and explains how to configure and manage them.

VMware

This section describes how to configure storage resources for VMware.

Prerequisites

The system has sufficient storage space.

Procedure

  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Provisioning > Application > VMware.
  3. Select LUN in Resource Type.
  4. Click Create.

    The Create VMware Storage Resource Wizard is displayed.

  5. Set basic information about the VMware instance to be created.

    Table 5-5 describes related parameters.

  6. Click Next and select a virtualization type.

  7. Click Next and set related parameters based on the selected virtualization type.

    • If Virtual desktop is selected, set virtual desktop parameters. Table 5-7 describes the related parameters.

  8. Optional: Set advanced properties for VMware applications.

    1. Click Advanced.

      The Advanced dialog box is displayed.

    2. Set advanced properties for VMware applications.

      Table 5-9 describes the related parameters.

      After this option is selected, the system creates thin LUNs. A thin LUN is allocated an initial capacity (30% of the total capacity) when created and is dynamically allocated required storage resources when its available capacity is insufficient.

      After this option is selected, the system automatically selects a storage pool whose capacity is 130% of the required capacity. When you use the storage pool to create storage resources for applications, reserve sufficient space to create snapshots for applications.

    3. Click OK.

      You are returned to the Set Virtual Desktop Parameters or Set Virtual Server Parameters page.

  9. Click Next and set storage resources parameters for VMware.

    The system will allocate optimal storage resources based on preset VMware parameters.

    Storage Pool Policy

    The system sets storage pool allocation policies based on preset VMware parameters. The value can be High performance, Performance/Cost balance, Low cost, or Manual selection. The four values are described as follows:

    • High performance: The system automatically selects a RAID 6 storage pool containing SAS disks only. If such a storage pool does not exist in the system, create one.
    • Performance/Cost balance: The system automatically selects a RAID 6 storage pool containing SAS and NL-SAS disks only. If such a storage pool does not exist in the system, create one.
    • Low cost: The system automatically selects a RAID 6 storage pool containing NL-SAS disks only. If such a storage pool does not exist in the system, create one.
    • Manual selection: Users define storage pools that meet the VMware service requirements.

  10. Optional: If the desired storage pool type does not exist or is unavailable, click and modify Storage Pool Policy in the displayed dialog box, or click Create Storage Pool to create one.

    Table 5-10 describes related parameters.

  11. Optional: Create block storage resources for the VMware application. Select a host to which you want to map the instance.

    NOTE:
    • If a mapped host is selected, the system automatically creates a LUN group, a host group, and a mapping view, and adds the LUN group and host group to the mapping view.
    • If no mapped host is selected, the system automatically creates a LUN group only. You need to manually create a host group and a mapping view for a mapped host and add the host to the mapping view. After being added to the mapping view, the host can access storage resources.

      The LUN group must contain all LUNs in the application instance.

    1. Click Next.

      The Select Mapping Hosts page is displayed.

    2. In the Available Hosts list, select the host that is used to access storage resources.
    3. Click to add the host to Selected Hosts.

  12. Confirm your settings.

    1. Click Next.

      The Summary page is displayed.

    2. Verify that the information about the VMware instance to be created is correct and click Finish.

      The Execution Result dialog box is displayed, indicating that the operation succeeded.

    3. Click Close.
