Modifying the Hot Spare Policy of a Disk Domain

This operation enables you to modify the hot spare policy of a disk domain.

Context

For 18000 and 18000F series storage systems, the high hot spare policy is used by default. You are not allowed to modify the hot spare policy on DeviceManager. To modify the hot spare policy, run the change disk_domain general command in the CLI.

Precautions

Note the following if you want to modify the hot spare policy of a disk domain:

  • To change the hot spare policy from None to Low or from Low to High, ensure that the disk domain's remaining capacity is not smaller than 10% of its total capacity.
  • To change the hot spare policy from None to High, ensure that the disk domain's remaining capacity is not smaller than 20% of its total capacity.

A hot spare policy cannot be modified if the disk domain's remaining capacity does not meet the previously described requirements. To modify the hot spare policy successfully, expand the disk domain.

Procedure

  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Provisioning > Disk Domain.
  3. Modify the properties of a disk domain.

    1. Select the disk domain you want to modify and click Properties.

The Properties of Disk Domain dialog box is displayed.

    2. Click the Hot Spare Policy tab page.
    3. Modify the hot spare policy in the disk domain and click OK.

The Warning dialog box is displayed.

      NOTE:

The Warning dialog box is displayed only when the level of a hot spare policy is modified from high to low.

  4. Optional: Confirm the information in the dialog box, select I have read and understand the consequences associated with performing this operation, and click OK.

The Execution Result dialog box is displayed, indicating that the operation succeeded.

  5. Click Close.
