Oracle

This section describes how to configure storage resources for Oracle.

Prerequisites

The system has sufficient storage space.

Procedure

  1. Log in to DeviceManager.
  2. Choose Provisioning > Application > Oracle.
  3. Click Create.

The Create Oracle Storage Resource Wizard is displayed.

  4. Set basic information about the Oracle instance to be created.

    Table 5-16 describes related parameters.

Table 5-16 Parameters of an Oracle instance

    Parameter

    Description

    Value

    Name

    Name of an Oracle instance.

    The name:

    • Must be unique.
    • Can contain only letters, digits, underscores (_), periods (.), and hyphens (-).
    • Must contain 1 to 22 characters.

    [Example]

    Oracle_App_001

    Description

Description of an Oracle instance. Description can be left blank or contain up to 255 characters.

    [Example]

    -

  5. Click Next and set the Oracle application parameters.

    Table 5-17 describes related parameters.

    Table 5-17 Oracle application parameters

    Parameter

    Description

    Value

    Service Type

Type of an Oracle application. The possible values are described as follows:

    • OLTP: Online transaction processing (OLTP) is a main application of traditional relational databases. It is used for processing basic and ordinary transactions, such as bank transaction.
    • OLAP: Online analytical processing (OLAP) is a technology that uses multidimensional structures to provide rapid accesses to data for analysis. This application mainly applies to data warehouse systems, such as dynamic reporting systems.

    [Example]

    OLTP

    Service Scale

Storage space required by Oracle services.

    [Example]

    40 GB

  6. Optional: Set advanced properties for an Oracle application.

    1. Click Advanced.

The Advanced dialog box is displayed.

    2. Set advanced properties for an Oracle application.

      Table 5-18 describes related parameters.

Table 5-18 Parameters in advanced properties of an Oracle application

      Parameter

      Description

      Value

      Enable log archiving

After this option is selected, the system will allocate storage resources to Oracle applications to archive data and logs.

      [Example]

      Enable log archiving

      Log Amount per Day (GB)

Maximum volume of storage space used to store logs per day. This parameter is available after Enable log archiving is selected.

      [Example]

      3

      Log Retention Period (days)

Retention period of system logs. After this period expires, logs are not stored. This parameter is available after Enable log archiving is selected.

      [Example]

      8

      Enable SmartThin

After this option is selected, the system creates thin LUNs. A thin LUN is allocated an initial capacity (30% of the total capacity) when created and is dynamically allocated required storage resources when its available capacity is insufficient.

      [Example]

      Enable SmartThin

      Reserve snapshot space

After this option is selected, the system automatically selects a storage pool whose capacity is 130% of the required capacity. When you use the storage pool to create storage resources for applications, reserve sufficient space to create snapshots for applications.

      [Example]

      Reserve snapshot space

      Flashback

After this option is selected, Oracle supports flashback deletion, which means a cancel button is added for a table and its related objects. After this function is enabled, the system will enable the log archiving function accordingly.

      [Example]

      Enable deselected

      Use RAC

After this option is selected, Oracle provides cluster software and storage management software, reducing application costs. When applications scale up, users can expand the system on demand to ensure system performance. If this option is not selected, the system will not allocate LUNs to store cluster logs.

      [Example]

      Use RAC

    3. Click OK.

You are returned to the Set Oracle Database Parameters page.

  7. Click Next and set storage resource parameters for Oracle.

The system will allocate optimal storage resources based on preset Oracle parameters.

Table 5-19 describes storage resource parameters.

Table 5-19 Oracle storage resource parameters

    Parameter

    Description

    Value

    LUN Capacity

LUN storage space allocated to store data, logs, or archives.

    [Example]

    60 GB

    LUN Quantity

Number of LUNs allocated to store data, logs, or archives.

    [Example]

    1

    Storage Pool Policy

The system sets storage pool allocation policies based on preset Oracle parameters. The value can be High performance, Performance/Cost balance, Low cost, or Manual selection. The four values are described as follows:

    • High performance: The system automatically selects a RAID 6 storage pool containing SAS disks only. If such a storage pool does not exist in the system, create one.
    • Performance/Cost balance: The system automatically selects a RAID 6 storage pool containing SAS and NL-SAS disks only. If such a storage pool does not exist in the system, create one.
    • Low cost: The system automatically selects a RAID 6 storage pool containing NL-SAS disks only. If such a storage pool does not exist in the system, create one.
    • Manual selection: Users define storage pools that meet the Oracle service requirements.

    [Example]

    Manual selection

    Selected Storage Pool

Name of the storage pool automatically allocated by the system to an Oracle instance.

    [Example]

    StoragePool001

  8. Optional: If the desired storage pool type does not exist or is unavailable, click and modify Storage Pool Policy in the dialog box that is displayed, or click Create Storage Pool to create one.

    Table 5-19 describes related parameters.

  9. Optional: Select a host to which you want to map the instance.

    NOTE:

    • If a mapped host is selected, the system automatically creates a LUN group, a host group, and a mapping view, and adds the LUN group and host group to the mapping view.
    • If no mapped host is selected, the system automatically creates a LUN group only. You need to manually create a host group and a mapping view for a mapped host and add the host to the mapping view. After being added to the mapping view, the host can access storage resources.

The LUN group must contain all LUNs in the application instance.

    1. Click Next.

The Select Mapping Hosts page is displayed.

    2. In the Available Hosts list, select the host that is used to access storage resources.
    3. Click to add the host to Selected Hosts.

  10. Confirm your settings.

    1. Click Next.

      The Summary page is displayed.

    2. Verify that the information about the Oracle instance to be created is correct and click Finish.

The Execution Result dialog box is displayed, indicating that the operation succeeded.

    3. Click Close.
