OceanStor 5000, 5000F, 6000, and 6000F V5 Series V500R007

This document is applicable to OceanStor 5110 V5, 5110F V5, 5300 V5, 5300F V5, 5500 V5, 5500F V5, 5600 V5, 5600F V5, 5800 V5, 5800F V5, 6800 V5, and 6800F V5 storage systems. It describes hardware installation of those storage systems for helping you easily and quickly finish the installation.

Table 2-3 lists the layout principles that the devices in the storage system must comply with.

Plan the location of a cabinet.

The distance between two adjacent cabinets should be at least 120 cm. The distance between a cabinet and the wall should be at least 100 cm.

It is recommended that you use 5 m of SAS cables to connect different cabinets.

Plan the locations of storage devices in a cabinet.

The bearable weight of the guide rails of a cabinet should be greater than 50 kg, and the bearable weight of the guide rails of a 6 U controller enclosure should be greater than 95 kg.

It is recommended that the controller enclosure be installed in the middle of the cabinet (from 19 U to 24 U).

The layout plan meets the requirement of the power supply and cooling system of the equipment room (depending on the cooling effect of the air conditioner). It is recommended that you place up to 8 disk enclosures in a single cabinet.

You are advised to install disk enclosures from the bottom up in descending order of weight.

It is recommended that you reserve a 1 U (44.45 mm, 1.75 inches) space between two devices, if possible. Alternatively, you can set five disk enclosures as a group. In a cabinet, at least 1 U space should be reserved between disk enclosure groups for convenient management and less shock transfer.

You are advised to reserve a 2 U space at the bottom of the cabinet to facilitate cabling, ventilation, heat dissipation, and maintenance of the devices located in the lower part of the cabinet.

(Optional) Plan the locations of other accessories.

When a controller enclosure uses an 8 Gbit/s Fibre Channel interface module (eight ports) to connect to an application server, you are advised to use an optical distribution frame (ODF) if the cable length is longer than 15 m (15 cabinets in between).

When an ODF is used, you are advised to deploy it in a distribution cabinet. If no distribution cabinets are available or the cable length between the distribution cabinet and controller enclosure is longer than 15 m, you are advised to deploy a distribution box in a cabinet that is within 15 m (15 cabinets in between) away from the controller enclosure. You can flexibly select and adjust your layout solution based on site requirements.

You are advised to install an ODF in the middle of a cabinet (between 18 U and 22 U) and reserve 2 U of space above the ODF to facilitate the management of optical fiber routing, as shown in Figure 2-4.

To guarantee smooth installation of key management servers, you are advised to reserve 2 U space in the cabinets for Thales keyAuthority and 1 U space for SafeNet KeySecure.

Based on Table 2-3, follow the instructions of Figure 2-1, Figure 2-2, and Figure 2-3 to deploy a 2 U, 3 U, or 6 U controller enclosure in a 42 U cabinet, respectively.
