This document is applicable to OceanStor 5110 V5, 5110F V5, 5300 V5, 5300F V5, 5500 V5, 5500F V5, 5600 V5, 5600F V5, 5800 V5, 5800F V5, 6800 V5, and 6800F V5 storage systems. It describes hardware installation of those storage systems for helping you easily and quickly finish the installation.

Maximum Cabling Distance for High-Density Disk Enclosures

In addition to the preceding layout principles, high-density disk enclosures must meet the following requirements:

  • The weight of cabinets and all devices, PDUs, and accessories in the cabinets must meet the load-bearing requirements of the equipment room. The weight of a single high-density disk enclosure is 100 kg in full configuration.
  • A high-density disk enclosure cannot be installed in the 4 U space from the top of the cabinet.

Maximum Cabling Distance of Mini SAS HD Cables

Only 3-meter or 5-meter mini SAS HD electrical cables are used to connect controller enclosures to high-density disk enclosures or connect two high-density disk enclosures.

  • 5-meter mini SAS HD cables are delivered with storage devices to connect controller enclosures to high-density disk enclosures or connect two high-density disk enclosures in the different cabinets.
  • 3-meter mini SAS HD cables are delivered with storage devices to connect controller enclosures to high-density disk enclosures or connect two high-density disk enclosures in the same cabinet.

If 3-meter mini SAS HD electrical cables are delivered with storage devices, the layout of high-density disk enclosures must meet the cabling distance requirements:

  • The 5-meter mini SAS HD electrical cables must be delivered when connections are required between a controller enclosure and a high-density disk enclosure or between two high-density disk enclosures in the different cabinets.
  • According to the recommended layout, a controller enclosure is installed in the middle of the cabinet, and high-density disk enclosures are placed up to or down to the controller enclosure.
  • One cable tray is deployed for each high-density disk enclosure to ensure that cables are correctly connected when high-density disk enclosures are pulled out. For details about how to install cable trays and route cables on cable trays, see Installing a Cable Manager.
  • OceanStor 5300 V5 supports only 3-meter mini SAS HD electrical cables for connecting controller enclosures to high-density disk enclosures.
  1. The maximum cabling distance between a 2 U controller enclosure and a high-density disk enclosure is 25 U.

  2. The maximum cabling distance between a 3 U controller enclosure and a high-density disk enclosure is 25 U.

  3. The maximum cabling distance between a 6 U controller enclosure and a high-density disk enclosure is 21 U.

  4. The maximum cabling distance between two high-density disk enclosures is 3 U.

If the maximum cabling distance is met, install devices in the cabinet by referring to the layout principles.

Suggestions for Routing Redundant Cables

In a design, 5-meter mini SAS HD electrical cables are used to connect controller enclosures to high-density disk enclosures or connect two high-density disk enclosures in the different cabinets. If the design changes and those cables are used to connect those devices in the same cabinet, there will be redundant cables. If the redundant cables are improperly routed, the cabinet door cannot be closed.

You are advised to bind redundant cables to the side of the cabinet so that the cabinet door can be closed.
