OceanStor 5000, 5000F, 6000, and 6000F V5 Series V500R007

This document is applicable to OceanStor 5110 V5, 5110F V5, 5300 V5, 5300F V5, 5500 V5, 5500F V5, 5600 V5, 5600F V5, 5800 V5, 5800F V5, 6800 V5, and 6800F V5 storage systems. It describes hardware installation of those storage systems for helping you easily and quickly finish the installation.

Expansion Rollback (Applicable to V500R007C00)

If controller expansion fails, restore the storage system to factory settings and expand the controllers again.

Symptom

SmartKit may fail to expand controllers if:

  • The configuration information about engine (enclosure SN: %s) fails to be modified.
  • The BMC information about engine (enclosure SN: %s) fails to be synchronized.
  • Controllers for expansion fail.
  • The new engine (enclosure SN: %s) fails to be added to the cluster.

%s indicates the SN of the enclosure.

  • If controller expansion fails, remove controller enclosures and switches added to the storage system as well as the cables between original and new controller enclosures, and then implement rollback.
  • If New engine (enclosure SN: %s) failed to be added to the cluster is displayed in SmartKit, the controller expansion cannot be rolled back. Contact Huawei technical support.

Procedure

  1. Roll back controller expansion in the original storage system in normal mode.

    1. Run the change user_mode current_mode user_mode=developer command to enter the developer view.
    2. Run the debug command to enter the engineer view.
    3. Run the sys showcls command to query the total number of controllers in the cluster, as shown in the following figure. node cfg indicates the total number of controllers in the cluster.

    4. Run the exit command to exit the diagnose view.
    5. Run the change user_mode current_mode user_mode=engineer command to enter the engineer view.
    6. Run the change controllers_expansion cancel controller_total=m command to roll back controller expansion.

      In the command, m indicates the total number of controllers in the original cluster.

    NOTE:

    If no controllers have been added to the cluster, run the change controllers_expansion cancel controller_total=m command to roll back the cluster. If controllers have been added to the cluster, contact Huawei technical support to minimize the impact on cluster services.

  2. Check whether storage systems that have not been added to the cluster are in minisystem mode.

  3. Clear the configuration information in bay_confg.ini from each controller.

    1. Run the os_write_bay_cfg.sh command to change the system status to the default dual-controller or four-controller mode.
      • If the engine to be expanded has two controllers, run the os_write_bay_cfg.sh -i 0 -c 2 command to change the system status to the default dual-controller mode.
      • If the engine to be expanded has four controllers, run the os_write_bay_cfg.sh -i 0 -c 4 command to change the system status to the default four-controller mode.
    2. Run the os_change_bayconfig.sh sync command to modify bay_confg.ini.
    3. Run the os_change_bayconfig.sh change command to read the configuration information from a disk and write the information into the BMC.
    4. Run the rebootsys command to restart the controller system.

  4. On CLI, restore storage systems that have not been added to the cluster to the factory settings.

    1. Run the change user_mode current_mode user_mode=developer command to enter the developer view.
    2. Run the restore cluster factory_mode command to restore controllers to the factory settings.

      After being restored to factory settings, the system restarts.

  5. Close the expansion tool and expand the controllers again. Then check whether the controller expansion is successful.

    • If it is, the procedure is complete.
    • If it is not, keep the fault environment intact and contact Huawei technical support.
