OceanStor 5000, 5000F, 6000, and 6000F V5 Series V500R007

This document is applicable to OceanStor 5110 V5, 5110F V5, 5300 V5, 5300F V5, 5500 V5, 5500F V5, 5600 V5, 5600F V5, 5800 V5, 5800F V5, 6800 V5, and 6800F V5 storage systems. It describes hardware installation of those storage systems for helping you easily and quickly finish the installation.

(Optional) Installing Other Software on an Application Server

To use certain functions, you can choose to install the following software on an application server.

Table 13-1 lists other software running on an application server.

UltraPath

When the storage system is building a redundant physical connection to the application server to increase communication link reliability, you can simplify resource management by installing UltraPath to display the redundant paths as one virtual link.

  • When redundant paths are used between the AIX host and Huawei storage device and no SAN boot operation is required, you can use Huawei UltraPath.
  • When redundant paths are used between the AIX host and Huawei storage device and the SAN boot operation is required, AIX host multipathing software and AIX ODM for MPIO must be installed. For details, see Installing AIX ODM for MPIO in the AIX ODM for MPIO User Guide.

For details about installing UltraPath, refer to the OceanStor UltraPath for Windows User Guide, OceanStor UltraPath for Linux User Guide, OceanStor UltraPath for Solaris User Guide, OceanStor UltraPath for AIX User Guide, or OceanStor UltraPath for vSphere User Guide.

NOTE:
  • To install UltraPath in Linux, run the install.sh script.
  • Go to the Support website to obtain the user guide specific to your product.
  • After the multipathing software is installed, you can run a command to query product models supported by the multipathing software. If XSG1 is displayed in the command output, the multipathing software supports OceanStor V5 series.
NOTE:

When the operating system is Linux whose kernel is 3.8 or later (Oracle Linux 6.5 or later, Red Hat 7.0, CentOS 7.0 or later, or SUSE 12 or later). If you select OceanStor UltraPath as multipathing software, use UltraPath 21.1.RC4 or later.

BCManager eReplication

When value-added features (such as asynchronous remote replication and snapshot) are used, BCManager eReplication must be installed to manage these features on the host and protect data consistency.

eService

eService is used for equipment monitoring, alarm reporting, and device inspection.

SystemReporter

SystemReporter is used for performance and capacity report analysis.

For details about installing SystemReporter, see the corresponding OceanStor SystemReporter User Guide.

  • Go to the Support website to obtain the user guide specific to your product.
  • The versions of SystemReporter and the storage system must be consistent; otherwise, SystemReporter cannot manage the storage system.

The VMware system has its own multipathing software, NMP. You can directly use this software without configuring it. If you use UltraPath, see your UltraPath document. If you use NMP, the recommended configuration is as follows.
