Replacing a Power Module

Prerequisites

• A spare part is on hand.
• The power module that you want to replace has been located.

You can locate a component in either of the following ways:

• Locating a component based on alarms in DeviceManager: On the Alarms and Events page of DeviceManager, view the help information and determine the ID of the component to be replaced. Then locate the component at your site based on its ID.
• Locating a component based on the status of its Running/Alarm indicator: For details about the indicators on different components, see Indicator Introduction of each component in the Product Description specific to your product model and version.

Precautions

• Do not touch the connectors of a power module and a power cable.
• Remove and insert a power module with even force. Excessive force may damage the appearance or connectors of the power module.
• Remove only one power module at a time.
• A power module must be replaced within three minutes. Otherwise, the system heat dissipation is compromised.

Tools and Materials

• ESD wrist strap
• ESD bag
• Labels

Procedure

1. Perform a pre-replacement check.
   Check whether there is a redundant power module and whether the Running/Alarm indicator of the redundant power module is steady green, as shown in Figure 6-31. For details about the indicators on different components, see Running/Alarm Indicators on a Disk Enclosure.

   You can perform replacement only when a redundant power module exists and the redundant power module is working properly.

2. Wear an ESD wrist strap.
3. Remove the power cable.
   1. Loosen the retention clip, as shown in step 1 in Figure 6-32.

   2. Pull up the retention clip, as shown in a of step 2 in Figure 6-32.
   3. Remove the AC power cable, as shown in b of step 2 in Figure 6-32.

4. Press the latch on the power module to release the handle and pull out the power module, as shown in Figure 6-33.

5. Put the removed power module into an ESD bag.
6. Take the spare part out of its ESD bag.
7. Open the handle of the spare part, insert the spare part into the empty slot, and close the handle, as shown in Figure 6-34.

8. Connect the power cable and secure it to the power socket.
   1. Press the locker of the retention clip outwards (as shown in a of step 1 in Figure 6-35), and meanwhile slide the retention clip to the connection part of the AC power cable (as shown in b of step 1 in Figure 6-35).

   2. Loosen the retention clip, as shown in step 2 in Figure 6-35.
   3. Press the retention clip inwards to secure the connection part of the AC power cable, as shown in step 3 in Figure 6-35.

   Adjust the retention clip to ensure that it holds the AC power cable tightly.

9. Wait about two minutes and check the status of the Running/Alarm indicator on the power module to determine whether the power module has been successfully installed. Figure 6-36 shows the location of the Running/Alarm indicator.
   • If the indicator is steady green, the power module has been successfully installed.
   • If the indicator is blinking green, the power input is normal but the disk enclosure is powered off.
   • If the indicator is steady red or off, the newly installed power module is faulty or the power module slot is faulty.

10. Confirm the replacement.

    After the preceding procedure is complete, check services on the host for storage-related errors. If any storage-related error is reported, contact Huawei technical support.

Follow-up Procedure

After the power module is replaced, label it to facilitate subsequent operations.
