This document is applicable to OceanStor 5110 V5, 5110F V5, 5300 V5, 5300F V5, 5500 V5, 5500F V5, 5600 V5, 5600F V5, 5800 V5, 5800F V5, 6800 V5, 6800F V5, 18500 V5, 18500F V5, 18800 V5, and 18800F V5. This document describes the procedure for replacing the parts of the storage systems in terms of safety operations, preparations, and precautions.

This section describes how to replace a system subrack.

Impact on the System

Replacing a system subrack interrupts services running on the system subrack. Exercise caution when performing this operation.


  • The spare part of the system subrack is ready.
  • The system subrack that you want to replace has been located.

You can locate a component in either of the following ways:

  • Log in to DeviceManager and go to the System page. On the System page, check the device view and locate the position of the component to be replaced. If the component has a location indicator, turn on the indicator. (For details about how to turn on a location indicator, see the online help of DeviceManager.)
  • Use the alarm indicator of the component to locate its position.
  • The cable connection positions of the system subrack that you want to replace are labeled on the cables.
  • Services running on the system subrack that you want to replace have been stopped.
  • The storage system has been powered off.

For details about how to power on or off a storage system, see corresponding sections in the Administrator Guide.


  • Remove and insert a system subrack with even force. Excessive force may damage the appearance or connectors of the system enclosure.
  • To prevent personal injury, arrange three persons to move a fully configured system subrack.

Tools and Materials

  • Phillips screwdrivers (M3 to M6)
  • ESD wrist strap
  • ESD bag
  • ESD table
  • Labels
  • Protective gloves
  • Nameplate
  • Product model label
  • Huawei logo label
  • Intel label
  • Device information label


  1. Check status before replacement.

    1. Check system status.

      Start SmartKit and choose Home > Storage > Routine Maintenance > Health Check. On the Health Check page, perform inspection as instructed. For details, see Checking System Status.


      If some items fail in the inspection, rectify the faults by performing the recommended actions in the inspection reports. Ensure that all other parts except the parts to be replaced are working properly.

    2. Check the status of the parts to be replaced.

      Start SmartKit and choose Home > Storage > Parts Replacement > Parts Replacement. On the Parts Replacement page, click FRU Replacement. Then complete the check before the replacement as prompted. For details, see Replacing an FRU.

    You can proceed to next steps only when all items pass the pre-replacement check and the replacement page is displayed. If any item fails, rectify the fault as prompted.

  2. Wear an ESD wrist strap and remove the cables from the system subrack that you want to replace.
  3. Take the replacement system subrack out of its ESD bag and place it on the ESD table.
  4. Remove components from the system subrack that you want to replace and reinstall them to their original positions in the replacement system subrack.
  5. Remove the system subrack that you want to replace from the cabinet, as shown in Figure 6-49.

    1. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the M6 screws from the system subrack.
    2. Pull the system subrack out of the cabinet along guide rails and place it on the ESD table.

  6. Optional: Attach the nameplate, Huawei logo label, product model label, and Intel label to the same positions on the replacement system subrack as those on the removed system enclosure, as shown in Figure 6-50. a indicates the position of the nameplate, b indicates the position of the Huawei logo label, and c indicates the position of the product model label and Intel label.

    • Two different nameplates are often included in the product. Select the one that contains identical information to the nameplate on the removed system subrack.
    • When attaching the product model label and Intel label, attach the product model label first and then attach the Intel label under the information on the product model label.

  7. Optional: Pull the information plate of the system subrack. (If you face the front part of the system subrack, the information plate is located at the lower right of the enclosure, as shown in Figure 6-51. Gently pull the information plate, but not away from the enclosure.) Attach the device information label to the information plate. Then, push the information plate back to the enclosure.

    You can attach the device information labels to both the front and back of the information plate. The label content and positions must be the same as those on the replaced system subrack. If a label has been attached to one side of the information plate, you only need to attach the device information label with a QR code to the other side of the information plate. Attaching the device information plate helps engineers easily identify and maintain devices.

  8. Install the replacement system subrack into the cabinet, as shown in Figure 6-52.

    1. Slide the system subrack into the cabinet along guide rails.
    2. Use M6 screws to fix the system subrack in the cabinet.
    3. Ensure that the system subrack is horizontally installed and tightly screwed.

  9. Connect cables to the system subrack and press the Power button to power on the storage device.
  10. When the Power indicator is steady on, check whether each component is in normal state.

    • If yes, the system subrack is successfully installed.
    • If no, cables are incorrectly connected, components are incorrectly installed, or the newly installed system subrack is faulty.

  11. Confirm the replacement.

    1. Perform a post-replacement inspection.

      After the parts replacement, return to the SmartKit page and click Replaced. Then complete the parts check after the replacement as prompted.

    2. Check system status.

      On the Parts Replacement page, click Inspection to check the system status again. If any inspection item fails, rectify the fault based on the suggestions.

    3. After the preceding procedure is complete, check services on the host for any storage-related error.

Follow-up Procedure

After the system subrack is replaced, label it to facilitate subsequent operations.
