Replacing a Power Module (for 18000 V5/18000F V5 Series)

Replacing a Power Module (for 18000 V5/18000F V5 Series)

This section describes how to replace a power module.

Impact on the System

During the replacement of a power module, if the redundant power module fails, the corresponding controller is powered by a BBU and the system reliability degrades.

Prerequisites

  • The spare part of the power module is ready.
  • The power module that you want to replace has been located.
NOTE:

You can locate a component in either of the following ways:

  • Log in to DeviceManager, and go to the System page. On the System page, check the device view and locate the position of the component to be replaced. If the component has a location indicator, turn on the indicator. (For details about how to turn on a location indicator, see the online help of DeviceManager.)
  • Use the alarm indicator of the component to locate its component.
  • The power cable has been disconnected from the power module that you want to replace.
  • The other power modules work properly.

Precautions

  • Do not touch the connectors of a power module and a power cable.
  • Remove and insert a power module with even force. Excessive force may damage the appearance or connectors of the power module.
  • Remove only one power module at a time.
  • A power module must be replaced within five minutes. Otherwise, the system heat dissipation is compromised.

Tools and Materials

  • ESD wrist strap
  • ESD bag
  • Labels
  • Phillips screwdriver

Procedure

  1. Perform a pre-replacement check.

Check whether there is a redundant power module and whether the Running/Alarm indicator of the redundant power module is steady green, as shown in Figure 5-35. For details about the indicators on different components, see Running/Alarm Indicators on a 6 U Controller Enclosure.

You can perform replacement only when a redundant power module exists and the redundant power module is working properly.

  2. Wear an ESD wrist strap.
  3. Press the latch on the inner side of the power module handle and pull out the power module, as shown in Figure 5-36.

  4. Put the removed power module into an ESD bag.
  5. Take the replacement power module out of its ESD bag.
  6. Insert the replacement power module into the empty slot until it clicks into place, as shown in Figure 5-37.

  7. Wait about one minute and check the status of the Running/Alarm indicator on the power module to determine whether the power module is successfully installed. Figure 5-38 shows the location of the Running/Alarm indicator.

    • If the indicator is steady green, the power module is successfully installed.
    • If the indicator is blinking green, the power module is incorrectly installed.
    • If the indicator is steady red or off, the newly installed power module is faulty or the power module slot is faulty.

  8. Confirm the replacement.

After the preceding procedure is complete, check services on the host for any storage-related error. If any storage-related error is reported, contact Huawei technical support.

Follow-up Procedure

After the power module is replaced, label it to facilitate subsequent operations.
