Replacing the SVP

Replacing the SVP

This section describes how to remove the SVP.

Impact on the System

An SVP must be powered off before the replacement. As a result, services and programs running on the SVP will be interrupted.

The SVP is heavy so that at least two persons are required to move it.

  • The spare part of the SVP is ready.
  • The SVP that you want to replace has been located.
  • Data is backed up for the SVP before it is removed. The following data needs to be backed up:
    • IP address of a management network port on the SVP
    • User names and passwords of all SVP built-in users
    • User names and passwords separately created by the Windows operating system, which must be re-created and re-added after the SVP replacement
    • User name and password of the storage system
    • Data in Windows VMs
    • License (Backup is needed when OfficeScan License is in use.)
  • All running services and programs on the SVP are stopped, then power off the SVP.

Tools and Materials

  • ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves
  • Packaging materials, for example, an ESD bag
  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Labels

  1. Wear an ESD wrist strap.
  2. Power off the SVP.
  3. Disconnect all power cables and signal cables from the SVP.
  4. Remove the SVP, as shown in Figure 6-227.

    1. Loosen the captive screws on the SVP panel using a screwdriver.
    2. Pull out the SVP along the guide rails away from the rack.

  5. Place the removed SVP on the ESD table.
  6. Install the SVP, as shown in Figure 6-228.

    1. At least two persons lift the SVP on two sides and move it to the rack.
    2. Place the SVP on the guide rails and push it into the rack.
    3. When the two mounting ears on the SVP contact the mounting bars on the rack, tighten the captive screws on the mounting ears to secure the SVP.

  7. Connect the cables and power on the SVP.
  8. Set the IP address of a management network port on the SVP. For details, see Installation Guide.
  9. Ensure that the SVP version is consistent with the controller enclosure version of the storage system.

    1. Start PuTTY on the SVP and use the IP address of the management network port to log in to the controller enclosure.
    2. Run the show upgrade package command to obtain the controller enclosure version.
    3. In Windows, go to the D:\huawei directory, open the version file with Notepad, and check whether the SVP version is consistent with the controller enclosure version in the first line.
    4. For details about the SVP version, see Upgrade Guide.

  10. Optional: Set the GSM modem. For details, see Installation Guide.
  11. Activate the antivirus software. For details, see Installation Guide.

You can also use the license that you have applied for to activate the antivirus software.
