This document describes the procedure for replacing the parts of storage system in terms of safety operations, preparations, and precautions.

Replacing a Disk Module

This section describes how to replace a disk module.

Impact on the System

During the replacement of a disk module, if system reconstruction is complete, host services are not affected; if system reconstruction is not complete, the quorum server software may fail, and the arbitration mode of the active-active service will switch to the static priority arbitration mode.

Prerequisites

  • You have determined the position on the quorum server for removing a disk.
  • You have obtained the rack number and chassis number of the quorum server.
  • You have located the quorum server based on the preceding information, and labeled its panel to prevent misoperations.
  • The spare part is ready.

Tools and Materials

  • ESD gloves or ESD wrist strap
  • Packaging materials, for example, an ESD bag

Procedure

  1. Remove the disk.

    1. Push the spring that fastens the disk ejector lever. See step (1) in Figure 6-235.
      The ejector lever automatically ejects.

    2. Hold the ejector lever, and pull out the disk for about 3 cm (1.18 in.). See step (2) in Figure 6-235. Wait for at least 30 seconds until the disk stops working. Then remove the disk from the quorum server. See step (3) in Figure 6-235.
    3. Place the removed disk in an ESD bag.

  2. Install the disk.

    1. Take the spare disk out of the ESD bag.
    2. Fully raise the ejector lever and push the disk module into the chassis along the guide rails until it does not move. See step (1) in Figure 6-236.

    3. Ensure that the ejector lever is fastened to the chassis beam, and lower the ejector lever to completely insert the disk module into the chassis. See step (2) in Figure 6-236.

  3. Wait until the disk indicator turns normal, indicating that the disk is powered on.

Follow-up Procedure

Log in to the quorum server.

  1. Run the qsadmin command to check whether the configuration page of the quorum server software is displayed.

    • If the preceding command output is displayed, go to 2.
    • If the preceding command output is not displayed, the arbitration configuration information has been lost. In this case, reinstall and configure the quorum server software.
  2. Run the show server_ip command to check whether the connection between the quorum server and storage devices is in Established state.
