This document describes the procedure for replacing the parts of storage system in terms of safety operations, preparations, and precautions.

Replacing a PDU (for 18000 V5/18000F V5 Series)

This section describes how to replace a power distribution unit (PDU).

Impact on the System

Replacing a PDU may affect normal power supply. Replace the PDU in off-peak hours and back up data in advance to avoid unexpected service interruption.


  • The spare part of the PDU is ready.
  • The PDU that you want to replace has been located.


Remove and insert the PDU with even force. Excessive force may damage the appearance or connectors of the PDU.

Tools and Materials

  • ESD bag
  • Label
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • Ladder


  1. Open the rear cabinet door.
  2. Remove the PDU to be replaced.

    1. Record the position information about the device cables on the PDU to be replaced.

      Record the position information on the labels of the device cables.

    2. Remove device cables from the PDU.
    3. Unplug the PDU's connector that connects to the power supply in the equipment room.
    4. Remove the PDU ground cable from the ground screw hole of the cabinet.
    5. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove M6 screws on the PDU. Lift the PDU and separate PDU from the cucurbit hole. Remove the PDU.

  3. Install the PDU.

    1. Take the replacement cable out of the package box.
    2. Fit the tabs on the PDU rear panel into the keyhole mounting and push them downwards to lock the PDU.
    3. Use M6 screws to fix the PDU.
    4. Fasten the ground cable of the PDU to the ground screw hole of the cabinet using ground screws.
    5. Plug the PDU's connector that connects to the power supply in the equipment room.
    6. Refer to the records in Step 2.1 and reconnect the device cables to the PDU.

  4. Verify that the PDU is properly installed and firmly secured.
  5. Power on the PDU.

Follow-up Procedure

After the PDU is replaced, label it for subsequent operations.
