Installing an OS on the Bare VM

Scenarios

On the FusionCompute portal, install an operating system (OS) on the bare VM as required.

NOTE:

This section uses the Windows Server 2012 R2 OS as an example.

Prerequisites

  • If FusionAccess must interconnect with FusionSphere V100R006C00 or earlier and the Windows Server 2016 OS is required, obtain the latest FusionSphere SIA Vx.x.xx.xxx_GuestOSDriver for FusionSphere V100R00xCxx.zip installation package first.
  • You have obtained the ISO file for the OS to be installed.
    NOTE:

    Obtain the Windows ISO image file from official channels. Do not use an OS Ghost image that is manually simplified.

  • You have logged in to FusionCompute.

Data

For details about key data and parameters, see the description given in specific procedures.

Procedure

Mount a CD-ROM drive.

  1. According to the FusionSphere version. For details, see Table 2-8.

    Procedure

    FusionSphere V100R005C10SPC700 or earlier

    1. On the row that contains the newly created bare VM, click Log In Using VNC.
    2. On the upper-layer of the VNC login window, click . On the menu that is displayed, click Mount Local CD/DVD-ROM Drive.
    3. Choose File > Browse. Select the ISO files that are stored in the local OS.
    4. Select Restart the VM now to install the OS.
    5. Click Confirm. The dialog box indicating that the CD-ROM drive is successfully mounted is displayed.
    6. Click OK.

    FusionSphere V100R005C10U1 or later

    1. On the menu bar in the upper pane of the FusionCompute page, click VM and Template.
    2. On the page that is displayed, click VM.
    3. On the Name column, click the bare VM that is newly created.
    4. Choose Hardware > CD/DVD-ROM drive > Mount Local CD/DVD-ROM Drive, and click OK.
    5. Mount the ISO files to a VM. Select Restart the VM now to install the OS, and click Confirm.
    6. In the VM and Template list, locate the row where the newly created bare VM is created, and click Log In Using VNC.

Install the OS.

  1. On the VM, install and configure the OS as required.

    NOTE:

    The temporary account must be set to LocalAccount when you install the OS. Otherwise, the template tool cannot delete the temporary account automatically, which poses a security risk.

    If you need to manually delete local users, refer toDeleting Local Users of Windows System.

  1. Unmount CD-ROM Drive.

Copy non-ISO files.

  1. Copy non-ISO files, such as the OS patches, and the installation programs of application software and peripheral drivers, to C:\ on the VM.

    An application software can be selected according to Huawei FusionAccess Preferred Applications.

Install the Driver Tools.

  1. Install the Driver Tools for different OSs. For details, see Table 2-9.

    VM OS

    Procedure

    Windows Server 2012

    1. On the FusionCompute portal, locate the row of the VM to be operated, choose More > Mount Tools, and click OK twice.
    2. Go to the VM CD-ROM directory, right-click Setup and choose Run as administrator from the shortcut menu. Install the software as prompted. During the installation, retain the default settings.
    3. After the software is installed, restart the VM once or twice as prompted, and then log in to the VM using the Administrator account.
    4. On the FusionCompute portal, locate the row that contains the target VM, and choose More > Unmount Tools to uninstall the CD-ROM drive.

    Windows Server 2016

    • FusionSphere V100R006C00 or earlier
      1. Decompress software package FusionSphere SIA Vx.x.xx.xxx_GuestOSDriver for FusionSphere V100R00xCxx.zip, and find the pvdriver-windows.iso file in for FusionCompute\01 PVDriver.
      2. Mount the iso file to the VM.
      3. Go to the VM CD-ROM directory. In the PVDriver directory, right-click pvdriver-win2016-xxx.exe, choose Run as Administrator from the shortcut menu, and install the software as prompted using the default settings.
    • FusionSphere V100R006C10 or later
      1. On the FusionCompute portal, locate the row of the VM to be operated, choose More > Mount Tools, and click OK twice.
      2. Go to the VM CD-ROM directory, right-click Setup and choose Run as administrator from the shortcut menu. Install the software as prompted. During the installation, retain the default settings.
      3. After the software is installed, restart the VM twice as prompted, and then log in to the VM using the Administrator account.
      4. On the FusionCompute portal, locate the row that contains the target VM, and choose More > Unmount Tools to uninstall the CD-ROM drive.

(Optional) Configure daylight saving time (DST) and install OS patches.
NOTE:
  • When Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing is enabled on Windows Server 2012 R2, install the OS patches obtained in Deployment Preparations. Copy the OS patches to the C:\ directory of the VM first.
  • Configure the DST only when it is required.
  1. Configure DST.

    • If your Windows OS supports DST, perform the following steps:
      1. On the VM, click the Date and Time area in the taskbar. In the displayed dialog box, click Change date and time settings.
      2. Click Change time zone.
      3. On the Time Zone Settings page, select a time zone based on the actual region and click OK twice.
        NOTE:

        If Automatically adjust clock for Daylight Saving Time is displayed on the Time Zone Settings page, select it.

    • If your Windows OS does not support DST, obtain TZEDIT.exe from DST modification tool, and set the DST as prompted.

  1. (Optional) Install other OS patches as required.

    The installation method varies with the format of the OS patch:

    • If the OS patch is an .iso file, mount the CD-ROM drive and run the installation program.
      NOTE:

      After the installation is complete, unmount the CD-ROM drive from the VM. Otherwise, the CD-ROM drive cannot be mounted to another VM that runs on the same host.

    • If the OS patch is not an .iso file, find the patch in C:\ on the VM and run the installation program.

  2. (Optional) Set the automatic update mode of the Windows OS.

    Choose Start > Control Panel > System and Security, click Turn automatic updating on or off under Windows Update, set parameters as shown in Figure 2-9, and click OK.

(Optional) Configure the local security policy.

NOTE:

The following operations are mandatory for Windows Server 2016 OSs only.

  1. On the VM, click , enter secpol.msc, and press Enter.

    The Local Security Policy dialog box is diaplayed.

  2. In the navigation pane on the left, choose Local Policies > Security Options, and select User Account Control: Admin Approval Mode for the Built-in Administrator account.

    The User Account Control: Admin Approval Mode for the Built-in Administrator account Attirbute dialog box is displayed.

  3. Ensure that this parameter is set to Disabled.
  4. Click OK.
