Creating an APS Server Template(Linked Clone, Full Memory, or QuickPrep)


Create a linked clone, full memory or quickPrep APS server template.

When creating a bare VM, set Configuration mode for system disks to Thin provisioning.


This section uses the Windows Server 2012 R2 OS as an example.


  • You have obtained the template tool FusionAccess_Windows_Installer_V100R006C20SPC102.iso.
  • You have logged in to the VM using the Administrator account.


For details about key data and parameters, see the description given in specific procedures.


(Optional) Deleting local users


A local user of the Windows system can log in to each Windows VM created by the image. For security reasons, you are advised to delete unnecessary local users in the Windows system as needed.

  1. Delete unnecessary local users in the Windows system as needed. For details, see Deleting Local Users of Windows System.

Use the template tool to configure the VM OS.

  1. Mount the template tool FusionAccess_Windows_Installer_V100R006C20SPC102.iso by mounting the CD-ROM drive.
  2. On the VM, double-click the CD-ROM.


    On some VM, after you double-click the CD-ROM, the FusionAccess Windows Installer window is displayed.

  3. Double-click run.bat.

    The window is displayed, as shown in Figure 2-10.

  4. Click Create Template, create linked clone, full memory, or QuickPrep VM template as prompted.

    • On the Core Component page, select SBC.
    • During the operation, if you are prompted to restart the VM, use the Administrator account to log in to the VM after the VM is restarted.
    • If an exception occurs during the restart (restart fails), manually start the VM, mount the template tool ISO file again, and go to the template tool directory to reinstall the template tool.
    • If the template VM is added to domain A, the VMs that are provisioned using the template can be added to only domain A.
    • During template creation, ensure that the VM can connect to the AD server over networks and is able to parse the domain name of the AD server.
    • If Configure user login is not selected during template creation, users in the Users group cannot log in to the APS VM locally but can use remote applications or shared desktops for login.
    • The assigned user or user group when the administrator publishes applications is a common user or user group. In this case, when updating or adding applications, you need to log in to the APS VM using an account with the administrator permission. If you do not have an account with the administrator permission, select Create local administrator account on the Function page to create an account. If you use the HDA installation package to configure the APS VM, manually add the account to the Administrators group of the APS VM.
    • The default system accounts, such as Authenticated Users, in the Users group and Remote Desktop Users group cannot be deleted.
    Set the following parameters on the page shown in Figure 2-11:
    • Set Domain to the domain where the VM is to be added.
    • Set Account to a domain account that has the rights to add other domain accounts.
    • Set Password to the password of the domain account that has the rights to adding other domain accounts.
    • Set OU to the OU where the VMs reside. The OU must exist in the domain and domain accounts can be delegated to it. If domain accounts cannot be delegated to the domain, this item is mandatory.

      For example, OU1/OU2/OU3, where / indicates hierarchical relationships.

Install application software.

  1. Install application software on the VM.

    • Some security software (antivirus software, safeguards, and firewalls) may conflict with the Microsoft encapsulation tool and cause VM creation failure, the blue screen of death (BSOD), or a blank screen for created VMs. Therefore, install security software only after VMs are successfully provisioned.
    • You are advised to install the application software in a public directory (expect C:\users\user) of the OS instead of a customized directory; otherwise, users cannot access the applications.
    The installation method varies with the format of the application software to be installed:
    • If the application software is an .iso file, mount the CD-ROM drive to the VM and run the installation program.
    • If the application software is not an .iso file, find the application software in C:\ on the VM and run the installation program.
    • After the installation is complete, unmount the CD-ROM drive from the VM. Otherwise, the CD-ROM drive cannot be mounted to another VM that runs on the same host.
    • To avoid affecting VM connections, disable any firewall in antivirus software or enable the ports required by the HDP on the firewall before installing the application software. For details about the ports required by the HDP, see Description > Communication Matrix in FusionAccess Desktop Solution V100R006C20 Product Documentation.
    • After installing the application software, you are advised to clone the VM. If the VM data storage type is not virtual storage, power off the VM and clone it:

      In the row of the VM to be cloned, choose More > Clone VM and click Next as prompted. Then click Finish to perform the VM cloning operation.

      The VM cloning progress is displayed on the task center. Ensure that the cloned VM is in stopped status.

      If this operation is not performed, you need to create a bare VM again and install and configure the VM OS when template encapsulation fails. To reduce repeated operations, you are advised to clone the VM.

      Cloning a VM takes about 20 minutes. You are advised to perform this operation during off-peak hours.

Enable the remote desktop connection service.

  1. In the VNC window for the VM, right-click in the lower left corner of the window, enter sysdm.cpl in the Run text box, and press Enter.

    The System Properties window is displayed.

  2. On the Remote tab page, select Allow remote connections to this computer, and click OK, as shown in Figure 2-12.

(Optional) Install the desktop experience package.

  1. The addresses of the configuration files that store administrator accounts and common accounts are different, so the personalized settings in the template do not take effect on user VMs. To enable user VMs to inherit the personalized settings in the template, see Configuring and Inheriting the Administrator Profiles.

Convert the VM into a template.

  1. Unmount the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Shut down the VM.

    To create a full memory VM template, ensure that the Enable option is not selected in Options > Swap Partition after the VM is shut down.

  3. On the FusionCompute portal, choose VM and Template > VM.
  4. In the row that contains the VM to be converted, choose More > Convert to Template.

    A dialog box is displayed.

  5. Click OK.

    A dialog box is displayed.

  6. Click OK.

(Optional) Enable the iCache function.

This operation needs to be performed only on linked clone VM templates.

After the iCache function is enabled on a VM, the system stores frequently accessed data in the iCache to increase the data access rate. Enable the iCache function only when the VM requires this function.

  • The iCache function takes effect only after the iCache function is enabled for the template and the VM created from this template is running on the host that provides the iCache function.
  • The iCache function can be configured only when the data storage type is NAS, Virtual local disk, or LUN Pome. This function cannot be configured if the storage type is FusionStorage.
  1. On the FusionCompute portal, choose VM and Template > Template.
  2. Locate the row that contains the new template, and choose More > Configure iCache.

    The Configure iCache page is displayed.


    If the physical memory required by iCache is not configured on the host or the host is abnormal, the host cannot be selected.

  3. In the host list, select a host to provide memory resources for the iCache function, and click OK.

    You can view the iCache configuration progress on the Task Center page.

Configure the template.

  1. On the FusionAccess portal, click Desktop.
  2. In the navigation tree, choose Service Configuration > VM Template.
  3. In the right pane, locate the row that contains the VM template to be provisioned, and set parameters based on application scenarios.

    • Service type: Select SBC.
    • Type: Select the corresponding template type.

  4. Click OK.
  5. Click Confirm in the displayed dialog box.

    A message stating Template Configuration saved successfully is displayed.

  6. Click Back and check the template type.

    The template creation task is complete.
