Configuring an Application Group

Scenarios

Create an application group on FusionAccess to centrally manage applications in the group.

Various applications are installed on VMs. To centrally manage the dispersed applications, you need to put them in to application groups.

One-to-one mappings exist between VM types and application groups.

Specifies the desktop site to which an application group belongs.

Application Group Name

Identifies an application group.

  • The name can contain Chinese characters, digits, letters, spaces, and special characters: ~!@%^_+-, and cannot exceed 55 characters. The name cannot start with any of the following characters: !@%^.
  • An existing application group name cannot be reused.

AppvGroup01

VM Type

One of the following can be set:

  • Full copy
  • Linked clone
  • Full memory
  • Hosting computer

Linked clone

Application group description

Provides supplementary information about the application group. This parameter is optional.

A string of 0 to 255 characters.

Procedure

Creating an Application Group

  1. On the FusionAccess Portal, choose Desktop > Application Group.
  2. In the application group list, click .

    The Add Application group page is displayed.

  3. Set the following parameters based on the data plan and click Finish.

    • Desktop
    • Application Group Name
    • VM Type
    • (Optional) Application group description

      The system displays a message indicating that the application group is created successfully.

  4. Perform one of the following operations:

    • To view information about the newly created application group, click Return to the application group list.
    • To add VMs to the newly created application group, Click Add VM, go to Step 8.

Adding APS Servers to an Application Group

  1. On the FusionAccess Portal, choose Desktop > Application Group.
  2. In the application group list, select the application group to which APS Servers are to be added, and click .
  3. Select APS server parameters. For details, see Table 2-12.

    VM parameters when VM Type is Full Copy

    VM naming (rule)

    A VM name consists of a prefix and a number sign (#). The prefix contains uppercase letters (A to Z), lowercase letters (a to z), digits (0 to 9), and hyphens (-) but cannot contain only digits. The prefix length cannot exceed 15 characters.

    VM Group

    Select a full copy VM group. On FusionAccess, full copy VM groups include two types, full copy and QuickPrep VM groups.

    Site

    Select the site where the VM locates. If the type of the selected VM group is Hosting Computer, you do not need to configure this parameter.

    Template

    If VM Type is Full Copy, the associated VM template must include two types of templates, Full Copy Template and Full Copy(Quick Prep) Template.

    VM parameters when VM Type is Linked Clone

    VM Group

    Select a linked clone VM group.

    NOTE:

    The VMs of a linked clone or full memory application group must belong to the same VM group.
