Installing the KVM

Installing the KVM

The KVM provides eight VGA ports to connect to the devices in the cabinet to check the status of devices and facilitate the access to and management of network elements. You are advised to install the KVM in a position close to 22 U in a cabinet for easy maintenance.

Prerequisites

Ensure that the following conditions are met before installing KVM:
  • A KVM is 1 U high. The installation position of the KVM must be planned according to the configuration diagram.
  • Guide rails have been installed.
  • All required tools have been prepared, containing Phillips screwdrivers, M4 screws, and M6 screws.

Procedure

  1. Optional: Install the KVM balancing pole by using M4 screws.
  2. Gently place the KVM on the guide rails of the cabinet and slide the KVM into the cabinet.
  3. Fasten the mounting ears on the mounting bar of the cabinet by using M6 screws, as shown in Figure 8-96.

    NOTE:
    • Secure the two screws in the upper and lower parts of a mounting ear if L-shaped guide rails are used.
    • Secure the screw in the upper part of a mounting ear if L-shaped adjustable guide rails are used.

The following figure takes the L-shaped guide rails as an example.
