Assembling a Cord End Terminal with a Power Cable

For PGND cables and power cables connected between cabinets and the power system, cut a proper length of cables based on site requirements and crimp cord end terminals to these cables.

Prerequisites

  • The cable jacket or insulation layer has no filth, bumps, dents, damage, or unrecoverable scratches.
  • The connector has no obvious damage, cracks, corrosion, or rust.
  • A cable of a proper length has been obtained.
  • Requisite installation tools and materials are as follows:
    • Crimping tool
    • Cable cutter
    • Gloves
    • Heat gun
    • Wire stripper
    • Handsaw

Procedure

  1. Strip the cable.

    When stripping the insulation layer, do not damage the cable conductor inside.

    Watch the cross-sectional area of the cable conductor and strip part of the insulation layer B to expose a length L1 of the cable conductor C, as shown in Figure 15-172.

    Table 15-76 lists recommended values for L1.

  2. Insert the cable conductor into the cord end terminal.

    Insert the cable conductor into the cord end terminal A and ensure that the end faces of cable conductor and cord end terminal are aligned, as shown in Figure 15-173.

    After installing the OT terminal to the cable, ensure the length of the conductor extending out of the cord end terminal, is not greater than 1 mm.

  3. Crimp the terminal with the conductor.

    Determine a proper cross-sectional area and crimp the head of the cord end terminal with the cable conductor using the crimping tool, as shown in Figure 15-174.

  4. Verify the terminal.

    Check the maximum width of the crimped terminal. The width of a tubular terminal must be smaller than that specified in Table 15-77.
