Installing an IB Switch

The process for installing an IB switch SX6018 to a cabinet includes installing the guide rails, sliding the SX6018 switch into the cabinet, securing the SX6018 switch, and checking the installation result.

Prerequisites

  • The installation environment meets requirements.
  • All required tools have been prepared, containing Phillips screwdrivers, guide rails, M6 recessed pan head screws, floating nuts, M6 countersunk screws, and electrostatic discharge (ESD) gloves or an ESD wrist strap.
  • Ensure that the air outlet direction of the switches is the same as that of the cabinet.

    The following are three recommended IB switch models:

    • MSX6018F-1BRS: C2P airflow (air intake on the port side)
    • MSX6036F-2SFS: P2C airflow (air outlet on the port side)
    • MSB7700-ES2F: P2C airflow (air outlet on the port side)
    NOTE:

    P2C means that air is blown from back to front (that is, from Power to Connector), and C2P means that air is blown reversely (that is, from Connector to Power). Power indicates the power cable side, while Connector indicates the port side.

Context

  • The SX6018 IB switch is applicable to an IB rear-end network for node interconnection and communication.
  • The SX6018 provides 18 x QSFP+ Ethernet optical ports, 16 of which are used to connect to 16 storage nodes. At the initial deployment, if the number of nodes is larger than 16, IB switches with large capacity are recommended for easy capacity expansion. For details on how to install IB switches with large capacity, refer to the accompanying documents.
  • When all storage nodes (P12E/P25E/P36E/C36E) are installed in one cabinet, two SX6018 IB switches also need to be installed in the cabinet.
  • When all storage nodes (P12E/P25E/P36E/C36E) are installed in two or more cabinets, each of the first two cabinets needs to be equipped with one SX6018 IB switch.

Procedure

  1. Wear an ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves.
  2. Screw the inner rails to the SX6018 switch, as shown in Figure 8-92.

    NOTE:

    The number of screw holes of the SX6018 switch depends on the actual delivery.

  3. Install the SX6018 switch.
    1. Insert the outer rails into the inner rails of SX6018 switch, as shown in Figure 8-93.

    2. Adjust the outer rails to make the guide rails as long as the cabinet.
    3. At both sides of the SX6018 switch, use six screws to secure the outer rails to the inner rails.
    4. In both the front and rear of the SX6018 switch, use eight screws to secure the guide rails to the cabinet, as shown in Figure 8-94.
