Configuring Congestion Management

Pre-configuration Tasks

When a network is congested intermittently, configure congestion management on the device. The device then determines the sequence at which packets are forwarded according to the defined scheduling policy and ensures that high-priority services are scheduled preferentially.

Before configuring congestion management, map the priority of packets to a PHB.

Context

Each interface can be configured with a maximum of eight queues. Different queues can use different scheduling modes. The device schedules the PQ queue first. If multiple PQ queues exist, the device schedules the queues in descending order of priority. A larger queue index indicates higher priority of a queue. After all the PQ queues are scheduled, the device schedules the WRR or DRR or WFQ queues in turn.

NOTE:

For CE12800, congestion management applies only to unicast traffic.

Procedure

  • Configuring Congestion Management (CE12800)
    1. Run system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. Run interface interface-type interface-number

      The interface view is displayed.

    3. Run qos { pq { start-queue-index [ to end-queue-index ] } &<1-8> | wfq { start-queue-index [ to end-queue-index ] } &<1-8> }*

      The scheduling mode of queues on the interface is set.

      By default, all queues use PQ scheduling.

    4. (WFQ scheduling) Run qos queue queue-index wfq weight weight

      The weight for WFQ scheduling is set.

      By default, the WFQ weight of a queue is 1.

    5. Run commit

      The configuration is committed.

  • Configuring Congestion Management (CE12800E)
    1. Run system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. Run interface interface-type interface-number

      The interface view is displayed.

    3. Run qos { pq { start-queue-index [ to end-queue-index ] } &<1-8> | drr { start-queue-index [ to end-queue-index ] } &<1-8> }*

      The scheduling mode of queues on the interface is set to PQ+DRR.

      By default, all queues use PQ scheduling.

    4. Run qos queue queue-index drr weight weight

      The weight for DRR scheduling is set.

      By default, the weight for DRR scheduling is 1.

    5. Run commit

      The configuration is committed.

Verifying the Configuration

  • Run the display qos configuration interface [ interface-type interface-number ] command to check all the QoS configurations on the interface.

  • Run the display qos queue statistics interface interface-type interface-number [ verbose ] command to view queue-based traffic statistics on the interface.

  • (For CE12800) Run the display system internal tm interface interface-type interface-number slot slot-id [ chip chip-id ] command to display forwarding information of an interface in a specified chip of a specified card.
  • (For CE12800) Run the display system internal qos schedule interface interface-type interface-number command to display queue scheduling on an interface.
