Checking VXLAN Connectivity Using a Ping Operation

Context

Perform the following operations on the VTEPs on the VXLAN to be checked.

NOTE:

The CE12800E does not support connectivity check for IPv6 VXLAN tunnels.

Pre-configuration Tasks

Before checking VXLAN tunnel connectivity using the ping vxlan command, ensure that the VXLAN has been configured correctly.

Procedure

  • Check IPv4 VXLAN tunnel connectivity.
    1. Run system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. (Optional) Run nqa vxlanecho enable udp-port port-number [ source-ip-interface interface-type interface-number ]

      The VXLAN ping function is enabled for the initiator.

      NOTE:

      This step is mandatory if the ping vxlan command is to be run on the initiator with the -r replymode parameter set to 3. Otherwise, skip this step.

    3. Run nqa vxlanecho enable udp-port port-number [ source-ip-interface interface-type interface-number ]

      The VXLAN ping function is enabled for the responder, and the number of the listening port on the VXLAN server is configured for the NQA test.

    4. Run ping vxlan [ -c count | -m interval | -t timeout | -r replymode | -tos tos | -a innersrc-address ] * vni vniid source source-address peer dest-address [ udp-port dest-port ] [ load-balance { vxlan-source-udpport vxlan-source-udpport [ endvxlansrcudport ] | { source-address lb-src-address destination-address lb-dst-address protocol { udp | lb-protocolid } source-port lb-src-port destination-port lb-dst-port source-mac source-mac destination-mac destination-mac } } ]

      IPv4 VXLAN tunnel connectivity is checked.

  • Check IPv6 VXLAN tunnel connectivity.
    1. Run system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. (Optional) Run nqa vxlanecho enable ipv6 udp-port port-number [ source-ip-interface interface-type interface-number ]

      The VXLAN ping function is enabled for the initiator.
