Configuring End-to-End VXLAN

End-to-end VXLAN tunnels can be configured to enable communication between VMs in different DCs.

Context

As shown in Figure 10-1, BGP EVPN transmits MAC or host routing information between Leaf 1 in DC A and Leaf 4 in DC B. The next hop of the MAC or host route is not changed during transmission. This process establishes an end-to-end tunnel between the VTEPs on Leaf 1 and Leaf 4.

End-to-end VXLAN supports the following scenarios:
  • Centralized gateway (BGP EVPN)
  • Distributed gateway (BGP EVPN)

Procedure

  1. Create a VXLAN tunnel between Leaf 1 and Leaf 4 on the network shown in Figure 10-1:
  2. Run the peer ip-address next-hop-invariable command on Leaf 2 and Leaf 3 BGP-EVPN address family view to configure them to advertise routes to EBGP EVPN peers without changing the next hops of these routes.
  3. Run the commit command to commit the configuration.
