FCF

An FCF supports both FCoE and FC, and is used to connect the SAN and LAN. On an FC SAN, the FCF provides FC data transmission. It can forward FCoE packets and encapsulate or decapsulate FCoE packets.

As shown in Figure 2-7, F_Ports of the FCF connect to the N_Ports of the server and storage device. Each FCF has a domain ID, and each SAN supports a maximum of 239 domain IDs. That is, a SAN has a maximum of 239 FCF switches.
