Configuring an FC or FCoE Interface


Layer 2 Ethernet interfaces can be switched to Fiber Channel (FC) interfaces. The default type of an FC interface is F_Port. A VF_Port is a virtual logical interface that is manually created on an FCoE forwarder (FCF), and provides functions of a physical FC interface. The VF_Port can work properly only when the VF_Port is bound to a physical Ethernet interface.

Pre-configuration Tasks

Before configuring an FC interface, complete the following task:

  • Connecting an FC optical module to the interface

If the LINK indicator is steady green, the interface is Up.


  • Configure an FC interface.

    1. Run system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. Run port mode fc interface-type interface-number

      An Ethernet interface is switched to an FC interface.

      By default, no FC interface exists on the device.

    3. Run commit

      The configuration is committed.


    When the system MAC address of the stack is switched, the FC interface may become error-down. You can run the port link-flap threshold 0 command to prevent the FC interface from entering the error-down state.

  • Configure a Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) interface.

    1. Run system-view

      The system view is displayed.

    2. Run interface fcoe-port interface-number

      An FCoE interface is created and the FCoE interface view is displayed.

    3. Run quit

      Return to the system view.

    4. Run interface interface-type interface-number

      The view of a physical interface to be added to an FCoE interface is displayed.

    5. Run fcoe-port fcoe-port-id

      The physical interface is added to the FCoE interface.

      By default, an FCoE interface does not contain a physical interface.

    6. Run port link-type { trunk | hybrid }

      The link type of the interface is configured.

      By default, the link type of an interface is access.

    7. Run port trunk allow-pass vlan { { vlan-id1 [ to vlan-id2 ] }&<1-10> | all } or port hybrid tagged vlan { { vlan-id1 [ to vlan-id2 ] }&<1-10> | all }

      The interface is added to the FCoE VLAN.

    8. Run commit

      The configuration is committed.

Follow-up Procedure

Run the display interface fc command to check the FC interface status.
