Pre-configuration Tasks

When a link is congested by traffic of a certain type, Priority-based Flow Control (PFC) controls transmission of such traffic without interrupting traffic of other types.

Before configuring PFC, complete the following tasks:
  • Configuring a link layer protocol so that interfaces at both ends of a link are Up
  • Completing Configuring DCBX before enabling PFC on the interface to set the PFC working mode to auto
NOTE:

If you configure both priority mapping and PFC, exercise caution when modifying the mappings between the priorities of PFC-enabled queues and priorities in the DiffServ domain. Otherwise, PFC may not work.

When the packet forwarding mode on the CE8860EI, CE8850EI, CE7855EI, CE7850EI, CE6860EI, CE6856HI, CE6855HI, CE6851HI, CE6850U-HI, and CE6850HI is set to Cut Through, the devices do not support PFC. To use PFC, run the assign forward mode store-and-forward command to change the packet forwarding mode to store-and-forward.

The PFC priority of member interfaces in the same FC instance must be the same.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run dcb pfc [ pfc-profile-name ]

    A PFC profile is created and the PFC profile view is displayed.

    The system provides a default PFC profile default. This profile can be modified but cannot be deleted. You can create a PFC profile or modify the default PFC profile according to service requirements.

  3. Run priority { start-priority [ to end-priority ] } &<1-8>

    PFC for queues with a specified priority is enabled.

    By default, PFC is enabled for priority 3.

  4. Run quit

    Exit from the PFC view.

  5. Run interface interface-type interface-number

    The interface view is displayed.

  6. (Optional) Run the following commands as required.

    • On the CE6870EI and CE6875EI, run dcb pfc buffer queue-index { xoff xoff-value | xon xon-value } *

      Thresholds for triggering and stopping PFC frames are configured.

      By default, the thresholds for triggering and stopping PFC frames are not configured.

    • On the device excluding the CE6870EI and CE6875EI, run dcb pfc buffer queue-index { reserved reserved-value | xoff xoff-value | xon xon-value | hdrm hdrm-value } *

      PFC reserved thresholds and headroom buffer thresholds for inbound queues, and thresholds for triggering and stopping PFC frames are configured.

      By default, the PFC reserved thresholds and headroom buffer thresholds for inbound queues and thresholds for triggering and stopping PFC frames are not configured.

  7. Run dcb pfc enable [ pfc-profile-name ] [ mode { auto | manual } ]

    A PFC profile is applied to the interface and the PFC working mode is specified.

    By default, no PFC profile is applied to an interface.

  8. Run commit

    The configuration is committed.

Verifying the Configuration

  • Run the display dcb [ interface interface-type interface-number ] command to check the Data Center Bridging (DCB) configuration and negotiation status.
  • Run the display dcb pfc-profile [ profile-name ] command to check the PFC profile configuration.
  • Run the display dcb pfc buffer [ interface interface-type interface-number ] command to check the PFC reserved threshold, thresholds for triggering and stopping PFC frames, and headroom buffer threshold.
