Configuring the MSTP Mode

Configuring the MSTP Mode

Before configuring basic MSTP functions, set the working mode of a switching device to MSTP. MSTP is compatible with STP and RSTP.

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run stp mode mstp

The working mode of the switching device is set to MSTP. By default, the working mode is MSTP.

MSTP can recognize RSTP BPDUs and, conversely, RSTP can recognize MSTP BPDUs. However, MSTP and STP cannot recognize each other's BPDUs. To enable devices running different spanning tree protocols to interwork with each other, interfaces of an MSTP-enabled switch connected to devices running STP automatically transition to STP mode; other interfaces continue to work in MSTP mode.

  3. Run commit

    The configuration is committed.
