(Optional) Configuring DHCPv6 Relay Options

(Optional) Configuring DHCPv6 Relay Options

DHCPv6 relay options include the Interface-ID option, Remote-ID option, Client Link-Layer Address (Client-LLA) option, and VSS-Control option. These options carry detailed user information for address assignment and parameter configuration.

Context

A DHCPv6 server assigns IPv6 addresses and other configuration parameters to clients based on options carried in DHCPv6 messages. You can determine whether to enable the DHCPv6 relay agent to add these options to DHCPv6 messages based on the server implementation.

  • The Interface-ID option carries information about the inbound interface that receives client messages.
  • The Remote-ID option carries information about a DHCPv6 relay agent, such as the DUID, port identifier, and VLAN ID.
  • The Client-LLA option carries information about the link-layer address of a client.
  • The VSS-Control option carries information about the VPN to which a client belongs.

Among these options, the Interface-ID, Remote-ID options can be configured for Layer 2 or Layer 3 Ethernet interfaces. The Client-LLA and VSS-Control options can be configured for Layer 3 Ethernet interfaces only.

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run dhcpv6 remote-id format { user-defined user-text | default }

The Remote-ID option format is configured.

By default, the Remote-ID option is displayed in the default format.

  3. Run interface interface-type interface-number

    The interface view is displayed.

  4. Run any of the following commands:

    • To enable a DHCPv6 relay agent to insert Interface-ID options carrying information about the interfaces on which client messages are received into DHCPv6 messages, run the dhcpv6 interface-id insert enable command.

By default, DHCPv6 relay agents do not insert Interface-ID options into DHCPv6 messages.

    • To enable a DHCPv6 relay agent to insert Remote-ID options carrying information such as the DUID, port identifier, and VLAN ID into DHCPv6 messages, run the dhcpv6 remote-id insert enable command.

By default, DHCPv6 relay agents do not insert Remote-ID options into DHCPv6 messages.

    • To enable a DHCPv6 relay agent to insert Client-LLA options carrying information about clients' link-layer addresses into DHCPv6 messages, run the dhcpv6 client-lla insert enable command.

By default, DHCPv6 relay agents do not insert Client-LLA options into DHCPv6 messages.

    • In VXLAN inter-VPN address assignment scenarios, to enable a DHCPv6 relay agent to insert VSS-Control options carrying information about the VPNs to which clients belong into DHCPv6 messages, run the dhcpv6 vss-control insert enable command.

By default, DHCPv6 relay agents do not insert VSS-Control options into DHCPv6 messages.

      NOTE:

      Only the CE6850HI, CE6850U-HI, CE6851HI, CE6855HI, CE6860EI, CE6870EI, CE6875EI, CE6880EI, CE7850EI, CE7855EI, CE8850EI, and CE8860EI support the command.

  5. Run commit

    The configuration is committed.
