Feature Limitations

When deploying DHCP on a switch, pay attention to the following points:
  • The CE6810LI does not support IPv4 Layer 3 forwarding. After the IPv4 function is enabled on an interface of the CE6810LI, the configured IPv4 address can only be used to manage the switch.

  • In V200R002C50 and later versions, a switch as a DHCP server can allocate IP addresses on the same network segment as the secondary IP address of an interface. When the address pool corresponding to the primary IP address has no available IP addresses, the switch searches the address pools corresponding to secondary IP addresses for available IP addresses, starting from lower IP addresses.

  • In V200R005C00 and later versions, a DHCP server assigns IP addresses to DHCP clients with the same MAC address in different VLANs.
  • When configuring the range of dynamically assignable IP addresses in the global address pool, ensure that the range is the same as the network segment on which the DHCP server interface address or the DHCP relay agent interface address resides. This avoids incorrect assignment of IP addresses.

  • The maximum number of times that a DHCP message is forwarded through DHCP relay agents between a DHCP client and a DHCP server cannot be greater than 16; otherwise, the message is discarded.

  • In a VXLAN scenario, DHCP relay and DHCP snooping cannot be configured together on the same network-side interface.

  • When configuring the DHCP server function on an M-LAG, you must configure the function on both member switches in the M-LAG, and IP addresses in the address pools on the two switches cannot overlap.

  • When configuring the DHCP relay function on an M-LAG, you must configure the function on both member switches in the M-LAG.
