Configuring the BFD Echo Function

Configuring the BFD Echo Function

Pre-configuration Tasks

The BFD echo function quickly detects faults on directly connected links.

Before configuring the BFD echo function, complete the following tasks:

  • Ensure that interfaces are connected properly.

  • Configure an IP address for the Layer 3 interface.

Configuration Process

Figure 2-22 Configuration process of the BFD echo function

Procedure

  1. Run system-view

    The system view is displayed.

  2. Run bfd

BFD is enabled globally and the BFD view is displayed.

By default, BFD is disabled globally.

  3. Run quit

    Return to the system view.

  4. Run bfd session-name bind peer-ip peer-ip [ vpn-instance vpn-instance-name ] interface interface-type interface-number [ source-ip ip-address ] one-arm-echo

A BFD session supporting the BFD echo function is configured.

By default, the BFD echo function is not configured.

    NOTE:

The BFD echo function is applicable only to single-hop BFD sessions.

  5. Run discriminator local discr-value

The discriminator for the BFD session is configured.

Only the local discriminator can be configured because the BFD echo function is configured only on the device that supports BFD.

  6. (Optional) Run min-echo-rx-interval interval

The minimum interval for receiving BFD packets of a BFD session supporting the BFD echo function is configured.

By default, the minimum interval for receiving BFD packets of a BFD session supporting the BFD echo function is 1000 ms.

  7. Run commit

    The configuration is committed.
