Installing the Database

NOTE:

This section describes how to install database 1.0. The installation method of database 2.0 is similar.

  1. Log in to the server as the root user, and open the terminal CLI.
  2. Run the cd command to switch to the directory (cd /hana/shared/ in this example) where the SAP HANA database file is saved.
  3. Run the chmod +x * command to add the execute permission.

  4. Run the ./SAPCAR_617-80000935_Linux_64bit.EXE -manifest SIGNATURE.SMF -xvf IMDB_SERVER100_122_5-10009569.SAR command to decompress the database file (versions of SAPCAR and IMDB_SERVER are subject to the site requirements). After the decompression, the SAP_HANA_DATABASE directory and the SIGNATURE.SMF file are obtained.

  5. Run the cp SIGNATURE.SMF SAP_HANA_DATABASE/ command to copy the SIGNATURE.SMF file to SAP_HANA_DATABASE.

  6. Run the cat /etc/hosts command to check whether the hosts file contains the resolved local host name. Otherwise, the database may fail to be installed.

  7. Run the cd SAP_HANA_DATABASE/ command to go to the SAP_HANA_DATABASE directory, and then run the chmod +x -R * command.

  8. Run the chown root:root /hana/data /hana/log command to change the user name and user group of the /hana/data and /hana/log directories to root.
  9. Run the chmod 755 /hana/data /hana/log command to add the execute permission to the /hana/data and /hana/log directories.
  10. Run the ./hdblcm command to start database installation.

  11. Set parameters as prompted.

    For the two-node HA networking, observe the following rules when installing two SAP HANA databases:
    1. The database instance numbers of the two servers must be the same.
    2. The database SIDs of the two servers must be the same.
    3. The database passwords of the two servers must be the same.

  12. Check that the database is successfully installed.

    1. Run the su - <sid>adm command to switch to the database system administrator.

      s00adm is the database system administrator specified during the database installation. The administrator name format is <sid>adm. For example, if the SID is S00, the administrator is s00adm.

    2. Run the HDB -version command to query the database version information. If version information is displayed, the database is successfully installed.
    3. Run the exit command to return to the OS user mode.

    1. Run the ps -le |grep hdb command to check whether the database main process is running properly.

    1. Run the following commands to start and stop the database service:
      hw00001:/usr/sap/S00/HDB00 # su - s00adm
      hw00001:/usr/sap/S00/HDB00> HDB start   /*Start the SAP HANA database.*/
      hw00001:/usr/sap/S00/HDB00> HDB stop   /*Stop the SAP HANA database. You need to run this command to stop the SAP HANA database before you shut down the OS.*/
