Configuring RAID 5 or 50 (SAS HDDs or SSDs, for HANA Database Installation)

Multiple hard disk configuration schemes are available for the HANA database installation. The configuration schemes vary in the hard disk type, capacity, and quantity, but they share the same RAID array configuration method. This section uses the configuration scheme "18 x 1.8 TB SAS HDDs (RAID 50)" as an example to describe how to configure a RAID array.

NOTE:

The KunLun 9016 all-SSD solution adopts two RAID controller cards. Unless otherwise specified, other solutions adopt only one RAID controller card. Steps 25-28 are to enable the CacheCade function and can be skipped if the only SSDs are used.

  1. On the Advanced tab page in the BIOS, select the LSI SAS3108 RAID controller card, and press Enter to go to the configuration screen.

  2. Select Main Menu and press Enter.

  3. Select Configuration Management and press Enter.

  4. Select Create Virtual Drive and press Enter.

  5. Select Select RAID Level and press Enter. Then select RAID50 on the screen displayed.

  6. Select Select Drives and press Enter.

  7. Select nine 1.8 TB SAS disks in sequence and enable each of them as follows: Select a disk, press Enter, and select Enable and press Enter on the screen displayed. Check that the nine disks are in the Enable state.

  8. Select Apply Changes and press Enter. Then select OK and press Enter on the screen displayed.

  9. Select Add More Spans and press Enter.

  10. Select Select Drives under Span 2 and press Enter.

  11. Select the remaining nine 1.8 TB SAS disks in sequence and enable each of them as follows: Select a disk, press Enter, and select Enable and press Enter on the screen displayed. Check that these nine disks are in the Enable state.

  12. Select Apply Changes and press Enter. Then select OK on the screen displayed.

  13. Select Save Configuration and press Enter.

  14. Select Confirm and press Enter. Then select Enable and press Enter on the screen displayed.

  15. Select Yes and press Enter. Then select OK and press Enter on the screen displayed.

  16. Go back to the Main Menu screen. You can see that there are two RAID modes.

    Select Main Menu and press Enter.

  17. Select Configuration Management and press Enter.

  18. Select Create CacheCade Virtual Drive and press Enter.

  19. Select RAID Level and press Enter. Then select RAID1 on the screen displayed, and press Enter.

  20. Select the four SSDs in sequence and enable each of them as follows: Select an SSD, press Enter, and select Enable and press Enter on the screen displayed. Check that the four SSDs are in the Enable state.

  21. Select Create CacheCade Virtual Drive and press Enter.

  22. Select Confirm and press Enter. Then select Enable and press Enter on the screen displayed.

  23. Click Yes and press Enter.

  24. Select OK and press Enter.

  25. Choose Main Menu > Virtual Drive Management. Select Virtual Drive 1: RAID50, 26.178TB, Optimal, and press Enter.

  26. Select Select operation, press Enter, select Enable SSD Caching, and press Enter.

  27. Select Go and press Enter.

  28. Select Confirm and press Enter. Then select Enable, select Yes, and press Enter on the screen displayed.

  29. Press Esc to go back to the home screen. Select Save&Exit, select UEFI: Virtual DVD-ROM VM 1.1.0 225 as the first boot option, and press Enter.
