Backing Up Data

Scenario

This section guides system administrators to configure data backup for management nodes and VM templates on FusionCompute. By doing so, backup data can be used to rapidly restore the system if system components are faulty or other exceptions occur.

Prerequisites

The account and password for logging in to FusionCompute has been obtained.

Procedure

Backing up the data of management nodes

  1. Log in to FusionCompute.
  2. On FusionCompute, choose in the navigation tree on the left. The Resource Pools page is displayed.
  3. On the VM tab page, enter search criteria and search for the VM to be shut down.
  4. In the row of the VM, click More. From the short-cut menu that is displayed, choose Power > Stop.

    A dialog box is displayed.

  5. Click Confirm. You can view the shutdown progress in the Recent Tasks area at the lower left area of the page.
  6. In the row of the VM, click More. From the short-cut menu that is displayed, choose Create Snapshot.
  7. On the page that is displayed, set the snapshot name, for example, FA_snapshot. See Figure 2-52.

    Click Confirm twice.

  8. Confirm the VM information and click Confirm.

Backing up the data of the teacher's VM

  1. On FusionCompute, choose in the navigation tree on the left. The Resource Pools page is displayed.
  2. On the VM tab page, enter search criteria to search for the teacher's VM created in Creating a Template for a Teacher's VM.
  3. Repeat Step 3 to Step 9 to generate a backup for the teacher's VM data, FA_TeacherBackup.

Backing up the data of the VM template

  1. On FusionCompute, choose in the navigation tree on the left. The Resource Pools page is displayed.
  2. Choose Resource Pools > VM Template.
  3. In the row of each classroom VM template and student VM template, choose More > Export as Template.
  4. On the displayed page, select Local PC.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Specify parameters as required.

    • Folder: identifies the name of the exported template.
    • Directory: specifies the directory for storing the exported template.
    • Format: Select ovf.

  7. Click Confirm.

    The data of the VM template is backed up.

    NOTE:

    You are advised to back up the template to a third-party or local server.
