Setting the DHCP Lease Time on Lite AD

Setting the DHCP Lease Time on Lite AD

This section describes how to set the lease time for IP addresses in the DHCP address pool to release IP addresses in a timely manner.

By default, the lease period of the LiteAD DHCP address pool is 691200s. However, during commissioning, VMs are repeatedly deleted and added. If the IP addresses are not released, the IP addresses are insufficient. You are advised to change the lease time to 86400s (or change the lease time according to the actual situation).

LiteAD has been deployed in the environment, and the LiteAD DHCP function has been enabled.

  1. Use PuTTY to log in to the VRM VM as user gandalf, and switch to user root.

  2. Run the following command to access the target folder, as shown in Figure 5-1.

    cd /var/lib/dhcp/etc/

  3. Run the following command to edit the configuration file:

    vi dhcpd.conf

  4. Change the values of default-lease-time, min-lease-time, and max-lease-time according to the actual situation.

    • default-lease-time indicates the default lease time, expressed in seconds. The default value is 8 days.
    • min-lease-time and max-lease-time are expressed in seconds. The minimum lease time is 6 days, and the maximum lease time is 30 days by default. If the lease time requested by the client exceeds the default maximum lease time, the server uses the default lease time.

  5. Press Esc, enter :wq!, and press Enter to save the modifications and exit.

The lease time is successfully changed.
