Configuring the Mapping Between the Host Name and IP Address

The mapping between the host name and IP address is correct.

Procedure

The following operations need to be performed on both the active and standby eSight servers.

  1. Use the PuTTY tool to log in to the eSight server as the root user and run the following command:

    # hostname -i

    • If the host IP address is displayed, the configuration is correct.
    • If the host name cannot be parsed, go to 2.

  2. Check whether the local host IP address and host name are configured. If not, configure the local host IP address and host name.

    1. Run the following command and check whether the local host IP address and host name are configured in the /etc/hosts file.

      # cat /etc/hosts | grep `hostname`

      If the following information is displayed, the configuration is correct. Perform 3.a. If the displayed information is empty or contains only the IP address, perform 2.b.
      10.120.39.213 eSightServer
    2. Optional: Add the local host IP address and host name in the /etc/hosts file.
      1. Open hosts file.

        # vi /etc/hosts

      2. Press i to enter the editing mode, and add the local host IP address and host name.
        ipAddress hostName

        ipAddress: The local host IP address.

        hostName: Host name.

      3. Press Esc to exit the editing mode and run the :wq command to save and exit the file.

  3. Check whether the domain name parsing sequence is configured. If not, configure the domain name parsing sequence.

    1. Run the following command and check whether the domain name parsing sequence is configured in the /etc/nsswitch.conf file.

      # cat /etc/nsswitch.conf | grep hosts

      If the following information is displayed, the configuration is correct, else perform 3.b.

      hosts: files dns
    2. Configure the domain name parsing sequence.
      1. Open nsswitch.conf file.

        # vi /etc/nsswitch.conf

      2. Press i to enter the editing mode, and add the following information.
        hosts: files dns
      3. Press Esc to exit the editing mode and run the :wq command to save and exit the file.
      4. Run the following command for the configuration to take effect:

        # systemctl restart nscd
