Changing the Database Password Validity Period

The default Oracle database account validity period is 180 days. After the account expires, eSight will be unavailable. You must change the database account validity period to unlimited.

Procedure

  1. Log in to the Oracle server as the root user.
  2. Switch to the oracle user.

    # su - oracle

  3. Connect to the database.

    > sqlplus / as sysdba

    If information similar to the following is displayed, the database is connected successfully:

    SQL*Plus: Release 11.2.0.4.0 Production on Wed Dec 24 16:05:14 2014 
     
    Copyright (c) 1982, 2013, Oracle.  All rights reserved. 
     
     
    Connected to: 
    Oracle Database 11g Release 11.2.0.4.0 - 64bit Production     

  4. Start the database.

    Run the following command to check the database status:

    SQL> select INSTANCE_NAME, STATUS from v$instance;

    If information similar to the following is displayed, the database is starting:

    INSTANCE_NAME                      STATUS  
    -------------------------------- ------------------------  
    esight                                      OPEN      

    If the database is not started, run the following command to start the database:

    SQL> startup

  5. Set the DEFAULT PROFILE password validity period to unlimited.

    SQL> ALTER PROFILE DEFAULT LIMIT PASSWORD_LIFE_TIME UNLIMITED;

    Run the following command to check the result:

    SQL> select PROFILE,LIMIT FROM dba_profiles Where PROFILE='DEFAULT' AND resource_name='PASSWORD_LIFE_TIME';

    If information similar to the following is displayed, the password is modified successfully:

    PROFILE ------------------------------------------------------------  
    LIMIT  
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------  
    DEFAULT UNLIMITED

  6. Optional: Check the user profile and password validity (here, COMMONUSER is used as an example).

    SQL> select PROFILE,LIMIT FROM dba_profiles Where profile=(select profile from dba_users where username='COMMONUSER') AND resource_name='PASSWORD_LIFE_TIME';

    If information similar to the following is displayed, the database is connected successfully:

    PROFILE LIMIT  
    --------- ------ 
    MYPROFILE 180

  7. Optional: Change the user profile password validity period.

    SQL> ALTER PROFILE MYPROFILE LIMIT PASSWORD_LIFE_TIME UNLIMITED;

  8. Exit the SQL command line.

    SQL> exit
